Just then, a knock came from the door. Santino's gaze left her, and he turned to answer it.

Seizing the opportunity, Latisha quickly pulled on the dry pants. By the time she looked up again, Santino had already stepped outside, closing the door behind him.

Latisha let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding and sank onto the bed, her body trembling with relief.

Santino crossed the corridor and entered another room where two people, a man and a woman, were waiting. If Latisha had been there, she would have recognized the woman instantly. It was none other than Selah Madison.

Santino dropped into a chair, leaning back lazily. He surveyed them both before speaking. “Ms. Madison, shouldn't you be by Mr. Lambert's side? Or have you decided to run away with me?"

Selah, dressed in her usual professional attire, sat primly in her chair and offered a weary smile. “There's not much use for me by his side anymore."

Santino crossed his legs, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Perhaps you should reflect on why that is."

Selah flushed slightly. "Yes... I came to tell you something else. It might be a little difficult to get out of Etherea City right now."

"Who said I was leaving Etherea City?"

Selah blinked. "Then you...?"

Santino didn't answer, his gaze drifting to the rain-streaked window. "What about Clifford? His wife is missing. How is he reacting?"

Selah frowned and shook her head. "No reaction at all. He's been busy with company matters these past two days. The shareholders' meeting is coming up. I doubt he has time to worry about that mute girl."

Santino's eyes flickered, and he let out a soft laugh. "How interesting."

Selah exchanged a confused glance with the man beside her.

Santino suddenly stood up. "Alright, you can go back now."

Selah hesitated. "I... now that I've come here, can I really go back?"

Santino glanced over his shoulder at her. “Why not? Clifford knows you're a plant,

but he still doesn't know who you're working for."

Selah's brow furrowed in surprise. “So, he's known all this time..."

"Don't worry," Santino smiled. "It's not a reflection on your charms."

Her thoughts exposed, a faint blush colored Selah's cheeks. She stood up as well. "I'll be going then."

The man left with her. Soon, the farmhouse was quiet once more. Santino stood in the doorway, looking up at the rain dripping from the eaves.

After sitting in the room for a while, Latisha heard the faint sound of a car engine. She rushed to the door opening it just a crack. She saw white car driving away from the farm. Before she could memorize the license plate, her view was

blocked by a figure.

Latisha gripped the doorframe and looked up through the crack to see Santino's smiling face. She swallowed hard, trapped between advancing and retreating.

Santino pushed the door open. "Can you cook?" he asked.

Latisha nodded.

"Go cook then."

She stared at him, stunned, certain she had misheard.

He continued, talking more to himself than to her. "There's a raincoat in the living room. The kitchen is on the left, Vegetables are in the courtyard and the backyard. It's just the two of us here. Go cook.”

Once he finished, Latisha ducked her head and walked past him. In the living room, she saw three coffee cups sitting on a round table. So the two people who had just left were acquaintances of Santino's.

Pushing the thought aside, she scanned the room and found a raincoat in the corner.
