Chapter 322
Latisha hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"Alright, hop in."
As she settled into the car, she told herself that Greyson, a CEO, wouldn't deceive her over something like this. Not everyone was like Santino. He wouldn't risk his position as CEO of Lambert Group for her sake.
With that thought, she felt a little more at ease.
It had started raining again. Lately, it seemed to rain every night in Etherea City, sometimes a drizzle, sometimes a downpour. Even on days with brilliant sunshine, the nights brought rain, without fail.
Latisha watched the blurry city lights pass by, her mind replaying Greyson's words and Mortimer's photo. Wasn't Clifford supposed to be with Yesenia? Why would Greyson call her?
She couldn't figure it out. She gently rubbed her stomach, which still ached faintly, and sighed. The taxi soon arrived at the hotel. After paying the fare, she followed the address on her phone and walked inside.
The room was on the sixth floor, a massive private suite. Even before she reached the door, she could hear the murmur of voices from within. She paused outside, taking a deep breath, her hand hovering over the handle, hesitant to push.
She remembered what happened last time at the Mystic Cube. Besides, she was mute. The room was full of influential people. If she went in, would Clifford be embarrassed by her? After all, he hadn't invited her.
Before she could make up her mind, the door swung open, and Greyson stepped out. He saw her and said, “You're here. Why are you standing out in the hall? Come on in."
Without waiting for her reaction, he turned and went back inside.
Latisha peered into the suite and felt a strong urge to retreat. It was crowded with men and women, all gathered in small, laughing groups. They were dressed immaculately, making her sweater and jeans feel utterly out of place. She and these people were from two different worlds.
Her eyes scanned the room until she finally found Clifford in a corner, sitting on a sofa. He was resting his head on his hand, with no one right beside him, though many people were seated on the surrounding couches, most with a female companion. But Clifford was alone.
Greyson walked over and sat down to Clifford's left, glancing back at Latisha as he
did.
Latisha bit her lip and forced herself
to walk in Fortunately, she was inconspicuous enough that no one paid her any mind. She came to stop behind Clifford's sofa, wringing her hands, feeling completely lost.
Greyson looked at her. "Ms. Judd is here."
At the sound of her name, Clifford's expression shifted slightly. He straightened up, turning his head just enough to catch her in his peripheral vision.
"Don't just stand there, Ms. Judd. Have a seat,” Greyson offered. "This isn't a board meeting, just a casual business gathering."
Latisha glanced at Clifford again. He had already turned away, not looking at her, not saying a word. Awkwardly, she walked around the sofa and sat down beside him.
A middle-aged man across from them spoke up. "Well, Mr. Lambert, your assistant has finally arrived. We've had our fill of drinks, so how about we let the assistants put on a little show?"
Hearing this, Latisha turned to look at Clifford.
