The wrong girl 147
The moment Stella opened her mouth, Louis felt his scalp go numb.
The worst part was—he couldn’t even get angry. He didn’t dare to.
Sure enough, the moment Abraham heard Stella’s words on the other end of the line, his voice turned icy.
“Tell him to get lost.”
Louis went silent.
Stella’s lips twitched slightly as she instinctively glanced at him.
Louis felt like his head was about to explode.
What the hell? Why does he sound like I just bullied her or something?
Louis was about to step forward when Stella spoke into the phone again.
“He said he gave you the wrong one and came to take it back.”
Finally—an explanation.
Louis thought, That should clear it up, right?
He had sent the wrong ring yesterday, and Abraham had immediately canceled the deal. So now, returning it made sense.
Louis waited anxiously for Abraham’s response.
Then—
Stella, bless her soul, added casually, “He brought a bracelet to exchange for it.”
She had already opened the box. Seeing it was a bracelet, she said it without thinking.
The instant Louis heard the word bracelet, his heart sank.
This is going to blow up.
Sure enough, the very next second, Abraham’s cold voice came through the phone again.
“Tell him to get lost. Now.”
And then—
The call ended.
Louis had never questioned his life choices as deeply as he did in that moment.
Stella glanced at him calmly. “You saw that. There’s no point trying to talk nicely.”
So much for using her as a backdoor to get back into Abraham’s good graces.
Louis stared at her, lips parting as if he wanted to say something—but he was too furious to even find the words.
Is she really trying to help me? She didn’t even explain things properly. She didn’t speak up for me at all. And now she’s acting like she did me a favor?
Louis took several deep breaths, forcing down the tightness in his chest.
In the end, all he managed was a bitter, clipped, “Thanks.”
Thanks for absolutely nothing.
With those awful people skills, it was no wonder she’d turned out like this—completely spoiled by Abraham.
Louis couldn’t stay in that office another second.
Stella really was a menace.
“Mr. Louis,” she called as he reached the door, “should I pay you back for the ring?”
Louis stumbled slightly, then ground out through clenched teeth, “No.”
He didn’t dare accept compensation from her.
Just as he opened the door, Stella hurried up behind him and grabbed his sleeve.
“Here, Mr. Louis. Take this back.”
Louis froze.
He felt dizzy.
Abraham had just told him to get lost—loud and clear. Accepting anything from Stella now would only make things worse.
He looked down at her hand gripping his sleeve, then gently but firmly pulled away.
“I already have enough on my plate,” he said coldly. “I don’t need more trouble.”
And with that, he left.
Moments later, Kimmy walked in cautiously.
“Ms. Dawson… did Mr. Louis get upset about something?”
Stella shook her head lightly. “No.”
Kimmy looked unconvinced, clearly nervous.
The studio had been open for over a year and a half, and high-profile people rarely showed up.
Yesterday, Sandra had come.
Today, Louis had stormed out.
Kimmy couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Judging by the gifts alone, these people were worth tens of millions.
And Stella?
She stood there calmly, as if none of it mattered.
