Chapter 113:

Aurora’s murmurs broke my thoughts, and I quickly turned my attention back to her face.

Straining my ears, I couldn’t quite make out her words, so I shifted closer to her, lowering my head to catch them more clearly.

A gasp escaped my lips when I heard her softly mention my name.

I was tempted to wake her, to reassure her that I would always be by her side, but I quickly dismissed the idea.

I didn’t want to seem desperate.

Overcome by the urge to touch her, I gently placed my palm on her, running it down the length of her side until I reached her waist.

I squeezed it tightly, extending my hand before letting it go almost immediately.

I couldn’t understand the surge of electrifying sparks that rushed through me.

It burned as it created a connection between us.

A frown creased my face as I stared at her in confusion.

I had only ever felt sparks with Ivy, and that was years ago. Why were they suddenly returning when I touched her? Maybe it was because I missed Ivy. That had to be it.

My heart sank when her eyes slowly opened.

Shit! Did I wake her?

“What are you doing here?” she asked, her gaze sharpening as if she had seen a ghost.

I knew she hated me, but I was ready to make amends. I was ready to stand up for her, even if it made people suspicious.

For the first time in months, I didn’t prioritize the baby over her.

I couldn’t explain why I was doing this, but I couldn’t stop myself either.

“What are you doing here?” she repeated, covering her bare body.

I could sense the anger building in her.

“I… I came to give you your… medication,” I stammered, pointing to the table. Thankfully, her afternoon dosage was right there.

“And I brought you flowers.” That was close.

“Since when did you care?” She shot me an angry look and turned away.

Guilt pierced me as memories of how I had deserted her, treating her as though she were invisible, flooded my mind.

“You could start with a thank you,” I muttered, growing frustrated at her lack of appreciation.

“Can we talk, Aurora?” I asked, staring deeply into her captivating eyes.

My heart raced when she locked her gaze on mine.

In that moment, I wanted her.

Had I fallen for Aurora… or was it just pity?
