Chapter 157
Chapter 157:
“I have to go. It’s urgent,” he said apologetically, leaving me in shock.
Why was he so unpredictable? One moment he was cruel to me, and the next, he sounded like he cared. Why couldn’t he just let me know my place in his life?
“It’s fine,” I replied weakly, my voice tinged with sadness. “I understand.”
Frozen in place, I watched as Damon removed his black leather jacket and draped it over my shoulders. It was far too big for me, making it look oversized.
“To keep the cold away,” he added, sliding my hands into the pockets before buttoning it up, one button at a time. How sweet of him.
My heart raced as his face inched closer to mine. I shut my eyes, releasing shaky breaths in anticipation.
Kiss me, please.
“We have unfinished business,” he whispered in my ear. I almost melted as his lips and tongue brushed against my earlobe.
He smirked dangerously before walking away with Jasper, leaving me alone. I could swear he was reluctant to leave—it was obvious in his body language.
I couldn’t stop blushing like a fool the moment he walked away.
“We have unfinished business…”
It was as if I could still hear his voice and feel the effect of his lips brushing against my ear, reigniting the sparks that radiated within me.
It didn’t take long before my cheeks turned the color of a ripe tomato, and I felt an uncomfortable warmth spreading between my thighs. Slowly, I caressed the leather jacket Damon had draped over my shoulders before leaving. How romantic of him.
I thought he didn’t have a heart anymore.

And yet, I hadn’t expected him to give me one of his expensive jackets just because it was freezing. Alpha Kings don’t treat their property with such care. The thought softened my heart.
How was it that he could make me hate him one moment and fall for him the next?
What was it about him?
“Hey!” a voice called from behind.
I turned sharply to see Alex bouncing toward me. She seemed unusually happy that evening.
I hoped she hadn’t seen what had just transpired between Damon and me.
“What are you doing out here alone?” she asked, making my heart skip.
Damn it.
“I was… I just came to admire the flowers,” I stammered, unable to find the right words.
Mentally, I slapped myself for coming up with such a poor excuse.
It would only increase her curiosity.
“By this time? You don’t believe that,” she shrugged and fixed me with her compulsive gaze.
But I wasn’t going to fall for that.
I was too shy to tell her that Damon and I almost had sex in the garden. In the castle, of all places! “Just take it like that, please.”
