Chapter 180:

“Yes, my King,” she replied, shaking as she bowed slightly.

Retrieving the keys from my back pocket, I unlocked the padlocks, releasing her from her shackles, but my eyes never left her. She made her way into the darkness, moving toward the wall.

Using my supervision, I followed her with my gaze and noticed she lifted a brick resting against the wall, revealing a paper-like object beneath it. She dusted off the sand from the paper before walking back toward me.

I struggled to contain my anxiety as my emotions threatened to overwhelm me. I knew the proof would be fake and inaccurate.

“Before I look at it, who is Ray?” I broke the silence, making her look at me in confusion.

It didn’t take long before the expression vanished from her face.

“Ray is a lowlife bastard who has his eyes on Aurora. He’s a chronic drunkard. Most times, Aurora steals your expensive wine to please him.”

“But I didn’t notice any drinks missing,” I interrupted.

“She is careful with it, trust me.”

“Fine.” I sighed, letting my hands fall to my sides as I received the small paper-like object she handed me.

My fingers brushed the surface, feeling the texture. It was a picture.

“I hope this evidence is enough to make you believe me—that Aurora is cheating on you with a lowlife, poor guy, and the baby in her womb is his, not yours,” she declared, her tone final.

Carefully, I turned the hardcopy picture over to reveal the images.

My heart did a quick flip when I saw Aurora and Ray kissing passionately. One of his hands was fondling her breasts while the other held her in place, pressing their hips together.

Unable to hide my shock, I threw the picture at Rosa immediately. It felt as though I had been burned by hot coal.

No. This wasn’t real.

It was a bad dream, and I needed to wake up.

Damon

I wanted to let out a deafening growl.

I wanted to punch the wall hard until my fist bled profusely. I wanted to grab Ray by the neck and rip his throat out, watching in satisfaction as his blood gushed from his veins, staining my claws.

I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t speak. The fear of breaking down before Rosa threatened to consume me.

The last thing I wanted was to let my guard down in front of her. Aside from Jasper, no one had ever seen me vulnerable, and I preferred it that way.

A strange blockage settled in my throat, forcing me to clear it so my voice wouldn’t betray me, shaking before her. I was the Alpha King, and I was supposed to be strong. Nothing should be able to break me… but maybe this could.

How could I have blindly trusted Aurora and the doctor? How could I have been so foolish, so easily deceived?
