Chapter 202
Chapter 202:
“I smell blood. What happened?” Devin asked authoritatively. His heavy footsteps echoed as he approached us.
“She cut herself,” Dax explained, showing him my hand.
Devin rushed to grab my hand, carefully examining it. “It’s not much, but be careful next time. I don’t want you hurting yourself.”
I nodded obediently, like a child listening to her uncle. “Why does it look like you’ve been crying?” Devin’s voice echoed, and my heart skipped a beat.
“Not really. It was, uh… onions,” I lied, avoiding their gazes.
“There’s no fucking onion anywhere,” Dax muttered, his eyes scanning the kitchen cabinet before resting on mine.
“Don’t lie to me. I can sniff out your lies,” he said, making my heart pound in surprise.
“Don’t tell me you’re crying because of that jerk?” Dax’s voice slightly raised in anger.
“No!” I quickly responded, but Devin’s eyes caught mine, making me scold myself.
How does he even detect lies so effortlessly?
I avoided his piercing gaze, scratching my head with the tip of my fingers.
“Stop lying and stop crying over him. He isn’t worth it,” Devin added, his tone firm.
“It’s not that easy to forget about the man who defiled you,” Dax said softly, patting me on the shoulder. “Take it easy on her, Devin. I’m sure she still has feelings for him.”
“I don’t!” I gritted my teeth as memories of how I was thrown out of the castle flooded my mind.
“Can you tell us what happened? Before you fled, did you tell him about the pregnancy?” Devin asked before sitting down on the countertop.

“He knows.”
Anger flashed in their faces. “Then why did he treat you this way? Doesn’t he want a child? Isn’t he your mate?”
I felt their intense stares on my neck as they searched for a mark.
“He… He isn’t my mate. He ow…” I stopped myself from finishing.
I didn’t want them to know that Damon had once been my master. They might get frightened and ask me to leave, knowing I had once belonged to the King.
On second thought, Damon didn’t own me anymore.
Thanks to the frame job, I had regained my freedom.
When I was well enough, I would ask Dax and Devin to take me to my parents’ pack.
“What happened?” Devin asked, his voice softening.
“I was framed. He wouldn’t even let me explain before throwing me out into the cold,” I tried to explain, biting my lip to keep from breaking down in tears.
“That bastard! For the sake of the child, he should’ve considered everything. He seems like someone who doesn’t think things through—he acts on emotion,” Devin stated, staring at me for answers, but I wasn’t ready to explain more just yet.
“He didn’t believe the baby was his because someone set me up.” I swallowed hard, shutting my eyes to stop the tears from falling.
“I don’t want to talk about it. It’s in the past,” I said, putting an end to the conversation.
