Chapter 21:

I let out a gasp when Nathalia howled, shifting into her wolf form before everyone. She cheated, knowing I couldn’t shift. She was definitely going to kill me in her wolf form.

Just as she was about to launch at me, I felt my bones shift. Maybe it was my broken ribs. I screamed as fur sprouted from my body. My teeth weren’t left out either, as sharp canines replaced them. My fingernails grew into long claws.

I stood on all fours, growling and howling louder than Nathalia. Gasps filled the room as everyone watched in shock.

No one expected this. Not even Nathalia thought my wolf could be bigger and more powerful than hers.

While her wolf was lean, mine was huge, towering over hers.

Did I just fucking shift?

This was the happiest day of my life!

Confusion soon overtook me as I glared at the color of my fur.

Silver-colored fur.

My eyes widened when I saw Nathalia’s fur color—dark as night.

In this pack, no one possessed a silver wolf except the Alpha and the Luna. Their offspring were supposed to have silver fur, just like them. I gasped in shock at the realization.

Was the Alpha’s mistress my biological mother?

Aurora

A frown settled on my face as I thought about it, and I almost slapped myself for my stupidity.

How could I doubt my biological mother because of a mere fur color?

You’re so dumb, Aurora. That’s why she hates you.

I sighed deeply, glancing at my mother, who stood frozen, watching me suspiciously.

Maybe if I were as smart as Nathalia, she would have shown me some care.

I shook off the sad thoughts creeping into my mind, blocking them completely before they could engulf me. As far as I was concerned, today was the happiest day of my life.

The day I shamed Nathalia by transforming into a gigantic wolf, more majestic than hers.

I marveled at my fur, which glittered like precious stones as the sun reflected off it. My jaw dropped as I got lost in the beautiful sight.

I could never get tired of watching it.

I wouldn’t mind shifting every day just to see my shiny fur.

A sharp pain suddenly interrupted my thoughts, a burning sensation behind my back.

It stung like the bite of a deadly scorpion. I hissed, clenching my teeth, refusing to let any tears fall.

No amount of pain would ruin my day.

But I was wrong.

The pain intensified rapidly, spreading over the region above my waist.
