Chapter 229
Chapter 229:
She hoped he wouldn’t betray her.
“Finally, you’ve gotten rid of that bitch and her bastard baby,” Silas began, breaking the silence. “You proved to me that you’re not entirely useless.”
“Thanks to you,” Rosa replied, a sense of relief washing over her. “I wouldn’t have done it without you. You helped me all along, behind the scenes. You made this plan a breeze.”
For the first time in months, Rosa felt at peace. There was no one left to compete with. Aurora was gone—forgotten forever. Or was she?
Rosa’s mind began to spiral, swirling with different thoughts.
“Why do you look troubled?” Silas asked, noticing the frown on her face. “Enjoy this moment. You don’t know what that bastard Damon has in mind. I’ve noticed he hasn’t been himself since his lover left.”
Silas chuckled, a laugh that seemed almost mocking. “Stupid piece of shit.”
But Rosa’s mind was far away from his conversation. She kept drinking the wine, trying to drown the uneasy feeling that clung to her.
“What if Aurora isn’t dead?” Rosa asked, her voice tinged with worry as her gaze lingered on the wall. “What if she’s still out there, somewhere in the woods? These days, I keep having these strange dreams and thoughts about her return. I can’t seem to shake them off.”
Silas rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Don’t tell me you feel sorry for her after she took your position. If it wasn’t for the plan, you’d be rotting in the dungeon.”
“I don’t pity her,” Rosa muttered, frustration lacing her tone. “But I can’t stop wondering if she’s really gone. I know no one can survive a night in the woods, but Aurora always had a way with luck.”
“Maybe luck will run out on her this time,” Silas said, his voice laced with dark amusement. “You see, I’m not as foolish as you are. When she left, I paid off some of my men to follow her, and they reported hearing her screams for a few minutes before everything went silent. Probably, she was eaten by a wild animal. So, my dear niece, cheer up. Your competition is gone,” he cheered, wrapping his arm around her slim shoulders.

As Silas looked away, Rosa couldn’t help but steal a glance at his face.
He was too excited.
Rosa’s mind raced as she tried to understand the reason for his strange excitement.
“Why are you helping me, Uncle? My goal in all of this is to become Luna, but what do you gain from it?” Rosa asked, pushing aside her growing sense of unease.
Silas’ eyes flashed a deep red for a moment before returning to their normal hue. “You know nothing, child,” he said, his voice turning deadly as he fixed his eyes on the wine glass, lost in his reflection.
Aurora
I didn’t know what shocked me more—the fact that I was being strangled by an enormous python or the two figures standing before me. My eyes almost popped out of their sockets as I stared at the familiar faces that caused a heart-wrenching pain. I shut my eyes, allowing the pain to overwhelm me. It was evergreen in my memory.
My breath grew harsh, and anger coursed through my veins, making it impossible to hold myself back. I was livid.
I felt an intense urge to break free from the python’s grip and charge at them in fury. The image of Damon’s unforgiving eyes the night he chased me out of the castle flashed in my mind, shattering my heart all over again. I would never forget the nights I spent alone and terrified in the woods, nearly freezing to death.
“Damon?!” I screamed, gritting my teeth as molten anger consumed me.
