Chapter 29
Chapter 29:
Perhaps I was taking her words too far. Maybe she didn’t mean it that way.
The atmosphere was thick with discomfort as tension surrounded us. I could hear my father’s heart pounding hard against his ribs, cloaked in anger.
My mother, on the other hand, looked like she had seen a ghost. Her body trembled uncontrollably.
Eve stood frozen, confusion clouding her thoughts, while the Luna and Nathalia stared at my father, their expressions full of surprise.
From the look on everyone’s faces, I could tell this was no trivial matter.
There was something more to my mother’s strange behavior. Her body language alone made me suspect something was wrong.
Despite thinking about what could have trapped her in this bizarre situation, I couldn’t piece it together.
“You better start talking!” my father growled, his voice so loud that my ears began to ache.
Sensing his rage, I rushed to my mother’s side, ready to protect her in case he tried to strike her.
No matter how badly she had treated me, I would always love her. She was my mother.
I didn’t mind that she pulled away from me, snatching her hands from mine. I wouldn’t leave her side.
“Mum, is everything alright?” I asked, fear creeping into my voice as I placed my hand on her shoulder to calm her, but she shrugged it off, allowing my hand to fall.
I was used to that behavior. It wasn’t new to me.
Silence stretched as she ignored me. Her gaze was fixed on my father.
This wasn’t my mother. My mother wasn’t a scared puppy.
She was a brave and outspoken woman. But what could put her in this situation?
Something wasn’t right.
“I need words, bitch!” he shouted, charging toward her like a predator stalking its prey. Anger radiated from him like a thick cloud of smoke.
Fear grew inside me as I watched him approach.
I had never seen my father this angry.
No matter what my mother had done, he shouldn’t be calling her names.
“You don’t get to call her a bitch, Dad. It’s disrespectful!” I blurted, locking my gaze on his without blinking.
No one had the right to disrespect my mother in my presence, or they’d have to deal with me.
“Stay out of this. It’s none of your business,” he snapped before turning his furious eyes back to my mother.
“I’m sorry, Alpha,” my mother started, swallowing hard before clearing her throat.
She was sorry? Why?
“It wasn’t intentional,” she paused, her face contorting as if she were about to burst into tears.
“The reason for Aurora’s fur and the tattoo is because she’s not my daughter,” my mother said, earning gasps from everyone.
