"Who was that?" Lester's eyes darkened a little.

"Mr. Rupert. He's been downstairs this whole time," Zion explained.

"I see. I'll find some time to talk to him."

After hanging up, Lester walked over to the window and glanced outside.

Under the glow of the streetlamp, the man's tall, striking figure was easy to spot. He was leaning against his car, smoking.

Almost as if he could sense he was being watched, Rupert suddenly looked up towards the window.

Lester didn't hesitate he pulled the curtains shut.

Sylvia, noticing, asked, "What's up?"

Lester glanced at her and offered a faint smile. "Just being cautious."

"Alright then."

"Since we didn't catch the guy, I'll just crash on the couch tonight. If there's any trouble, I'll hear it right away."

He made his way back to the sofa and sat down.

Sylvia thought about protesting, but with the stalker still at large, she couldn't find a good reason to say no.

"Thanks."

"No problem. I'll just expect a great breakfast in return," Lester joked, changing the subject.

"Deal. There's a huge supermarket nearby-should be easy."

Sylvia let the matter drop and went to find some clean bedding.

She brought out a spare quilt and pillow, making up a bed for Lester on the couch.

"Sorry to make a big boss like you sleep on the couch."

"Well, I could always sleep in your room instead," Lester teased, eyes locking onto hers.

Sylvia pressed her lips together. "Mr. Sanford, do you ever quit with the corny jokes?"

She got up to head back to her room.

But Lester reached out and gently caught her wrist, his eyes serious. "I'm not joking. I'm definitely waiting my turn."

Sylvia pulled her hand free, cheeks a little flushed. "Alright, alright—I get it!"

She ducked into her room before he could say anything else.

After a shower, Sylvia lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Finally, she reached for her phone.

Just then, a message popped up in the building's group chat-the stalker had been caught. Turned out he was a delivery guy who'd been hanging around the area, noticing how many single women lived in the building,

and decided to try something shady. The police nabbed him just as he was about to make a move.

Sylvia recognized him immediately from the photos-the same guy who'd

delivered her medicine. The thought made her skin crawl.

She wondered if she should tell

Lester so he wouldn't feel like he had

to keep watch anymore. But when she checked the time, it was already well past midnight. He was probably asteep.

Kicking him out now that things were safe just felt wrong. Besides, the idea that the stalker had been right outside her door made her heart race all over again.

She decided to just let Lester stay for the night.

After scrolling through her phone for a while, she finally dimmed her bedside lamp and tried to get some sleep.

...

Downstairs.

Orson watched as the lights in Sylvia's apartment dimmed, his nerves on edge. He glanced anxiously at Rupert.

He'd rushed over as soon as he heard there was a stalker in the area but hadn't expected to find Lester there too.

"Mr. Rupert, should we stay? Looks like Ms. Lloyd's gone to bed," he said softly.

Rupert checked his watch. "No rush. She never sleeps this early. She's probably seen the news about the stalker being caught. No way she'd let someone stay over if she knew."

Orson pursed his lips, holding back what he really wanted to say.

Even as an outsider, he remembered Sylvia always dimmed her bedside lamp before sleeping. And only her bedroom light was on-didn't that say enough?

Besides, he'd caught a glimpse of the two of them at the window earlier, close enough to kiss.

Orson sighed quietly. He stayed with Rupert for a whole three hours, watching Rupert sit so long he started looking pale. Finally, Orson insisted on driving them home.

Rupert didn't say a word the whole way back.

Once at Soho Bay, Rupert climbed the steps with his cane, looking unsteady.

Orson hurried to help, but Rupert brushed him off.

"I don't need help," he said through clenched teeth. Updates are released by FіndNovel.net

"Mr. Rupert..."

Orson followed behind, worried sick, until Rupert finally lay down to rest.

A few moments later, Orson came in with a glass of water and some medicine. "Mr. Rupert, time for your pills."
