Under the thin, scattered starlight, a chilly wind swept through the night.

A car zipped past under the villa's porch light. The Winslet family's butler glanced over, then hurried inside.

"Ms. Winslet, Orson's here."

Kay's brow furrowed as she looked up from her stack of paperwork, shooting her assistant a sharp glance.

The assistant stiffened, suddenly recalling the report from ten minutes earlier.

"Ms. Winslet, we've lost contact with those two guys."

"Did Sylvia and Mr. Rupert see each other?" Kay asked.

"They did. Got a picture right here. Mr. Rupert nearly got himself killed saving Sylvia." Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn find[ɴ]ovel.net

The assistant handed her the photo.

Kay studied it, nodding in approval. "Those hired hands always bring trouble. If they've disappeared, that just saves us the hassle. My objective was met anyway."

The assistant hesitated, worry in her voice. "But if Ms. Sanford finds out, won't she

Kay's cold stare cut her off.

"I'm doing Reese a favor. If she can't keep her seat as Mrs. Garcia, what use will she be to us in the future?"

"Yes, ma'am," the assistant replied, not daring to say another word.

With that, the assistant continued reporting on company matters.

But just then, Orson arrived.

Kay snapped her folder shut and composed herself, turning to the butler. "Show Orson in."

The butler nodded, but as he turned, he stumbled back in shock at what he saw. Two men, hands and feet bound, were tossed unceremoniously at Kay's feet. Kay sprang up, annoyance flaring. "Orson, what is the meaning of this?"

Orson calmly adjusted his leather gloves, his expression unreadable. "Ms. Winslet, don't worry. Mr. Rupert asked me to bring these men here so they could personally explain the whole story to you."

The two men on the floor looked up to Kay, eyes pleading for mercy.

But Kay turned away, feigning indifference. "Mr. Rupert really has a sense of humor. I don't even know

these people why should listen? listen Take them away, I have wor to do." s

Orson stepped closer to the two men. "If that's the case, Ms. Winstet,

then it's even simpler Mr. Rupert tore me to show you some courtesy, but I suppose that's unnecessary." s

"You-" Kay started, but her words caught in her throat, eyes wide with shock.

Suddenly, the two men's screams filled the room.

Their hands had been pinned straight through to Kay's desk, blood spilling everywhere.

Orson, Rupert's infamous right-hand man, was rumored to be ambidextrous-

both in writing and wielding a knife with surgical precision.

Blood trickled across the desk, finally dripping onto Kay's expensive white pumps, the sight making her stomach twist.

She struggled to move, but her legs wouldn't cooperate.

Orson wiped his knife, pulled off his gloves, and handed them to a man behind him.

"Ms. Winslet, these men tried to frame you. I taught them a lesson, so they won't be spreading rumors. I won't take up more of your time."

Before Kay could recover, Orson and his men left.

At the door, Orson turned back, his gaze cool. "Ms. Winslet, Mr. Rupert asked me to remind you—these guys are desperados. They only care about money. Watch your back."

Kay opened her mouth to retort, but they were already gone.

Fuming, she looked down to see blood splattered across her desk and her now- ruined designer heels.

She kicked off her shoes and hurled one across the room, letting out a bitter laugh. "Does he really think this will scare me? Ridiculous!"

Just then, her assistant's phone rang. After a brief exchange, the assistant's face went pale.

"Ms. Winslet, our partner just pulled out of the deal. No warning."

Kay's face twisted in anger. She didn't need to ask who was behind it.

She took a few deep breaths, forcing herself to calm down, then turned to her assistant.

"What about Mr. Edwin? Any movement?"

The assistant, clearly intimidated,

answered quietly, "None. Mr. Edwin doesn't seem to care about his

position at the Garcia Group anymore-hes off traveling with Naomi every day 's
