Chapter 860
Furious and out for blood, Mrs. Mercer and Sallie's dad stayed up all night plotting, completely locking down every asset James possessed.
Meanwhile, James sat in his holding cell, desperately waiting for Mrs. Mercer to send a lawyer. But days dragged on, and no one came.
He banged on the bars, begging the officers for information, but they completely ignored him.
Three agonizing days later, Sallie finally arrived. Dressed in her finest jewels, she glided into the visitation room. When James laid eyes on her, he realized she looked more stunning than ever, having visibly dropped a significant amount of weight.
Overjoyed, he practically pressed himself against the glass.
“Sallie, you're finally here!"
Sallie stared at him coldly. "It's only been a few days, but you look awful."
James had always carried himself with an arrogant swagger. Since marrying Sallie, even with the stigma of a freeloader, people still kissed the ground he walked on.
Over the past two decades, he had transformed from a penniless street kid into an untouchable corporate boss, entirely fueled by the massive resources of the Yeager family.
Yet, his sole ambition had always been to siphon their empire into his own pockets. Even if he couldn't steal it all, he was determined to bleed their resources dry to build his own personal empire.
Blinded by love for twenty years, Sallie had finally snapped out of her delusion. She saw him for the monster he truly was, and she refused to keep up the charade for another second.
Unbeknownst to James, Sallie had already finalized the divorce papers. She had only come to deliver the final blow.
Oblivious, James instantly launched into a bitter tirade.
"This place is hell! Do you have any idea what I've been through? They locked me in a pitch-black room and demanded I confess. Confess to what? What the hell does 'corporate embezzlement' even mean?
"Show me one CEO who doesn't shuffle company funds! Isn't the petty cash from shareholders meant to be spent?
"At the end of the day, I secured the deals that made the company rich. I paid their salaries and handed out their bonuses. These people are ungrateful leeches. They bite the hand that feeds them!
"And now they sue me? Sallie, you're my wife. You have to get me out so I can purge those traitors from the board I'm going to restructure the Whole company and remind them exactly who gave them their davish lifestyles!"
Sallie completely ignored his rant. She signaled a guard for an ashtray, lit a cigarette, and took a slow, deliberate drag. James frowned in disgust.
"You're a woman; you should act like a proper wife and mother. Why are you smoking? You look like some cheap street thug. It's beneath you."
Sallie blew a ring of smoke toward the ceiling and let out a sharp laugh.
"I am the heiress of the Yeager family. I do whatever I damn well please, and nobody tells me otherwise."
In the past, Sallie would have never talked back. What James said was law. She saved her temper exclusively for his mistresses, remaining completely submissive to him in every other aspect of their lives.
That unwavering devotion was exactly why James never felt emasculated about leeching off her family.
The Yeager family had treated him with such overwhelming respect that it bred his unchecked, god-like arrogance.
James choked on his words, suddenly hyper-aware of her icy indifference. Realizing he was currently at her mercy, he snapped his mouth shut.
"Sallie... did you hear what I just said?"
His tone drastically shifted, suddenly laced with a newfound caution and a trace of genuine fear.
"I heard you," she replied smoothly. "And I think you make a fantastic point. Thèse greedy pigs who stare at other people's plates have zero respect. They trick themselves into believing they earned everyting through their own hard work.
"They completely ignore the connections and resources that handed them their success on a silver platter. You're right-they're nothing but ungrateful bastards, completely agree with you. Soum like that shouldn't just be kicked off the board; they should be completely cut off and left to rot."
Sallie spoke with a lethal edge, completely shedding the persona of the naive, obedient rich girl he had married.
Dressed in a flawlessly tailored designer suit, she looked entirely transformed. In just three days, she had dropped enough weight to accentuate her stunning curves.
For the first time in years, James found himself staring at her, genuinely captivated by her newfound magnetism.
Backed by years of expensive skincare and elite treatments, Sallie's complexion remained as radiant and luminous as a young girl's. With the excess weight gone, her striking features were sharper and more beautiful than ever.
