Chapter 876
He still remembered passing by his uncle's study and asking for it once, but he never got a response.
Today, Marcus grabbed him by the collar, made him stand directly under that model car, and gave him a vicious thrashing.
Connor grimaced in pain from the strikes.
"Do you know why I've never let you into this study since you were little? Take a good look at this racing model. Do you remember it?"
The corners of Connor's lips curled up, a painful smirk drawn out by the searing sting of the strikes.
But he maintained his flippant attitude.
"You know perfectly well that I lost my memory, yet you're still talking nonsense to me."
Marcus's face couldn't possibly look any darker.
"Because you lost your memory, I'm making you remember right now. I bought this model myself. Do you know where the original car is? That was the only memento Gwyneth's mother ever left for me. You snatched it away and gave it to Gwyneth." And so what?
Connor didn't dare voice that question out loud.
This was the first time his uncle had laid into him like this. It taught him the true meaning of agonizing pain.
Marcus tossed the cane at Connor's feet.
"If you ever dare joke about my romantic affairs again, don't blame me for disregarding our family ties."
When Marcus laid down the law so ruthlessly, Connor shrank back a little in sheer intimidation.
So the old man was finally capable of getting angry, huh?
Connor was ordered to kneel under the model racing car in the study for the entire night. When Marcus came to check on him the next morning, he found Connor sound asleep on the floor.
Marcus's eyes dimmed slightly, and he finally had the staff bring a blanket to cover him up.
Then he had someone carry him out of the study and dump him in the guest room to sleep.
Marcus stood silently in front of the model car. The memories of him and Victoria Turner were likely remembered by him alone now.
And the man who possessed his goddess was trapped in an eternal slumber.
He stood in silence for a long time before answering a call on his phone.
"Well?"
"Mr. Green, I'm sorry, but based on the current scope of medical knowledge, there is
no known method to improve Mr. Langford's condition."
His brows knitted together slightly. It was the same monotonous answer every time. After all these years it seemed McNeil Langford's condition was locked in an endless cycle of despair.
When the person on the line didn't hear a response, they couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Green, should we continue?"
"Continue. Money is not an issue. As long as you can develop an effective drug, I will pay whatever it takes."
He realized that his greatest wish in this lifetime was for McNeil to wake up one day and reunite with Victoria.
"McNeil, if you dare to die, I'll drag you back from hell myself."
At Hawthorne's estate.
Gwyneth had been in a wonderful mood lately. Not only could she sleep in until she naturally woke up, but she also enjoyed her husband's luxurious, hotel-like pampering.
Breakfast brought to her, shrimp peeled for her at lunch, and romantic strolls after dinner.
When Celia and Chris visited and saw several portraits of Hawthorne scattered around Gwyneth's room, they cringed hard.
"So, sis, you just paint these when you have nothing better to do?"
Chris's expression was icy. It seemed that man had completely stolen Gwyneth's soul.
"Why didn't Mom come with you?"
Seeing her siblings put Gwyneth in an even better mood.
With them keeping her company, she wouldn't have to constantly worry about them and the family.
"Mom has to stay with the Langford patriarch. His condition isn't looking good, so Mom has to fly back to the sanatorium overseas in a few days."
As the siblings were chatting, Layne Everhart dropped Leonie off.
Leonie had been distracted and anxious over Connor for the past few days.
Visiting Gwyneth gave her a chance to take her mind off things. The moment she arrived at the door, ag little white dog fan up, whining around her feet. Leonie scooped it up and headed upstairs to see Gwyneth, unexpectedly running into Chris and Celia.
Layne trailed closely behind, and the pairs bumped right into each other.
Layne immediately locked eyes with Celia, and she stared right back.
The two of them curiously sized each other up. "Why does Layne look so much younger?"
Layne was equally confused. "Two Gwyneths?"
Chris said coolly, "This isn't your first time meeting. Stop pretending it's love at first
sight."
Layne realized then that when he
visited Starfall City last time, he had seen a
Girl who looked very much
like Gwyneth. But he hadn't paid much attention to Celia back then.
Seeing her up close today, she really did look like a miniature version of Gwyneth.
