Chapter 911
She wasn't even sure if Connor actually liked her, or if this was just his bruised ego acting out.
Leonie leaned toward the latter. She had chased him so openly, only to run off with Dorian, which undoubtedly dealt a massive blow to his pride. That had to be the only reason he pulled a stunt like today's.
Otherwise, given Connor's personality, he probably wouldn't have given her the time of day even if she went crawling back to him.
Connor was always surrounded by gorgeous women. As the untouchable, arrogant heir who was constantly pursued, he had completely forgotten how to interact with a normal girl.
For a fleeting moment, Leonie felt like she was out of her mind. She never should have provoked Connor in the first place.
Gwyneth saw how conflicted she was over the fight with Connor and didn't quite know what to say.
Truthfully, she hoped Leonie would end up with Connor. At least they came from the same world, and she wouldn't have to constantly worry about Leonie's safety.
Dorian, on the other hand, was entirely different. His background was complicated, his origins murky, and Leonie was a sheltered, wealthy girl. If someone told Gwyneth that this Dorian kid was with Leonie purely out of innocent affection, she wouldn't believe it to save her life.
Of course, she kept those thoughts to herself to spare Leonie's feelings.
"How did Connor manage to make you this mad again? Tell me all about it." Gwyneth was already used to Connor's notoriously unreliable antics. She honestly didn't know which of them owed the other a karmic debt from a past life. They were always hopelessly tangled up, yet entirely incapable of just being together properly.
It was a chaotic dynamic Gwyneth couldn't comprehend; she preferred the steady, deep-rooted romance she shared with Hawthorne.
When prompted, Leonie didn't even know where to begin venting her frustrations. So, she simply dumped everything Connor had done that day into one long, exasperated rant.
Listening to the sheer absurdity of it, Gwyneth couldn't help but laugh. Leonie flushed with irritation. "Gwyneth, I'm practically dying of anger here, and you're laughing at me!"
Gwyneth immediately sobered up, putting on a serious face.
"I'm just happy for the two of you. Why would I laugh at you? Connor has always been straightforward. He says whatever, is on his mind. He probably just genuinely has no idea. how to properly pursue a woman.
"Leonie, if you really like him, you shouldn't let this bother you so much. Everyone has their pride. By doing what he did Connor saved face while simultaneously trying to win you back. I don't think he was entirely in the wrong.
"The main reason you're so upset with him is because of Dorian. Dorian's background is worlds apart from Connor's. When you're with Connor, you can't help but feel sorry for Dorian.
"It's that lens of sympathy for Dorian that makes you so dismissive of everything Connor does.
"Let's reframe it. If Dorian didn't exist, and Connor came to you today to publicly declare his feelings, wouldn't you have been thrilled?"
Hearing Gwyneth lay it out like that, Leonie felt her mood lighten considerably.
She had to admit, at least half of what Gwyneth said was undeniably true. Thinking it over, the knot in her chest began to loosen.
"I get it, Gwyneth. It's late. You should get some rest. I still have to go to the hospital tomorrow to take care of Dorian."
She had made up her mind to look after Dorian until he was discharged. No matter what tactics Connor used, she absolutely refused to abandon Dorian.
The poor guy had been through enough, unlike Connor, who just did whatever he pleased with zero respect for anyone else's boundaries.
Even if Connor wanted to win her back, he should have at least asked for her opinion first. Instead, he had just forcefully dragged her into his arms for a kiss in front of an entire crowd.
