Chapter 952
"During that crash, they both sacrificed themselves to shield you. You were the only survivor."
Connor remained skeptical, but the explanation struck a chord deep within him. He didn't push back.
"What's the name of the person who killed them? Can I go see her?"
Marcus replied flatly.
"Violet Marchand."
Violet was serving her time at Starfall Penitentiary. The name sounded faintly familiar to Connor, but he couldn't place where he had heard it.
Marcus watched him, fully aware that Connor had zero recollection of the woman. It made sense; with his fractured memories, how could he possibly remember Violet?
But a flicker of recognition crossed Connor's eyes as he asked his next question.
"Did I know this Violet person before?"
Marcus gave a curt nod.
"You did. She was McNeil's mistress. Word was that she saved his life once, but that turned out to be a total fabrication. She's also the reason Gwyn's parents got divorced."
Connor scoffed dismissively. "Just another cliché cheating scandal. Can't you older folks come up with better drama?"
Marcus didn't bother arguing.
"Believe what you want, but it's the truth. She's locked up at Starfall Penitentiary. If you manage to see her, you might get some answers. But she's a manipulative piece of work. Whether she'll actually tell you anything is a coin toss."
Connor rolled his eyes. "I couldn't care less about that. But there is one thing I'm dying to know. Eleanor mentioned you fell for a woman and practically vowed never to marry because of her. Who is she?"
Even Eleanor had sung her praises, claiming the Green family just wasn't lucky enough to have her. Marcus looked at Connor, tempted to tell him it was none of his business, but eventually, he let it go.
"There's no harm in you knowing. It's Gwyn's mother, Victoria."
The moment the words registered, Connor immediately regretted asking. Why did he have to open his big mouth? Missing his chance with Gwyn was already his life's greatest regret, and later, out of sheer bad luck, he had developed feelings for her best friend. Now to top it all off He discovered his uncle was hopelessly in love with Gwyn's mother.
Gwyn's mother. The realization was mortifying. He might be missing chunks of his memory, but Gwyn and the others weren't. That meant every time he hung around Gwyn, and Marcus happened to be there, they all probably knew his uncle was pining after her mom.
Connor shot Marcus an icy glare.
"Can't you aim a little higher? Are we both doomed to be pathetic over the Langford women?"
Marcus replied smoothly, "As long as you have the spine to move on, you don't need to worry about my love life." He leveled a hard stare at his nephew.
"Go handle your own mess. Wherever you're heading, just make sure you come back in one piece."
With that, Marcus returned to his paperwork, ignoring him. Connor's mouth twitched. It seemed he couldn't hide anything from his sharp-witted uncle.

Still, he couldn't help but wonder how a man as brilliant, capable, and charismatic as Marcus had failed win over Gwyn's mother. Who exactly was wyn's father? What kind of man commanded such unyielding loyalty that Victoria hadn't given Marcus a single chance in all these years?
