Chapter 113
"Hello?" A soft, gentle voice floated through the phone.
Steven listened, his brow furrowing deeper with every word. "What did you say? Can you repeat that?
"No... that can't be possible, right?
"Okay. I understand. I'll be there as soon as I can."
The call lasted barely two minutes before the line went dead.
Steven's heart was all over the place, rising and crashing like he was trapped on a rollercoaster. He stood there, frowning, his mind completely blank, lost and unsure what to do next.
After five minutes of silence, he finally pulled himself together and called his assistant. "Andy, book me the fastest flight to Switzerland. I need to leave as soon as possible."
"Yes, Mr. Heath. I'll check for the soonest departure.”
Andy was efficient as always. "Mr. Heath, the earliest flight is tonight at seven."
"Book it."
Once the ticket was settled, Steven drifted over to the edge of a flower bed and just sat there, staring off into space. For someone usually so decisive and sharp, he suddenly couldn't make a single call. He felt stuck, helpless, and completely lost.
Half an hour later, he dragged himself back to the hospital room, looking defeated.
Mr. Anderson glared at him, clearly frustrated. "Where did you go?"
Miranda's face was tight with worry. "Steven, the nurse has been waiting to clean up your wounds. Where did you disappear to?"
"...Did Lucie wake up?"
"Not yet."
Steven's mind was a mess. "I want to see her."
"She's still unconscious..."
Before anyone could stop him, Steven pushed the door open and walked straight inside.
Lucie lay on the hospital bed, an oxygen mask covering her mouth and nose, wires and tubes everywhere, monitors beeping softly. The sight hit him hard, a punch straight to the gut.
His eyes stung. His nose burned. He tried to hold back, but the tears wouldn't listen, spilling over anyway.
"Lucie, I'm so sorry. I really am. I've been awful. What I did... it was unforgivable. "If you'll let me, I want to make it up to you. I swear I'll try."
He sat at her bedside, holding her hand, his heart twisting with guilt and regret.
People change. He knew that now. The man he was four years ago wasn't the same as the one sitting here today.
Before they married, he'd been
guarded, calculating, never planning
to make it last. But after the
Nas
wedding, he realized just how
kind
wonderful she was got side
always looking on the bright side She didn't have a single bad habit. Cóntent
And she had her own light. She chased her dreams with a passion he admired, building a career she loved.
All the fights and drama he'd expected, the endless power struggles-they never happened.
Now, all he wanted was to keep her by his side for good.
However, reality was never that simple.
Mr. Anderson, still worried, followed him into the room. "What are you planning to do?"
Steven didn't answer. He glanced at the clock. It was already five thirty. If he didn't leave soon, he'd miss his flight.
"Lucie, please get better. Wait for me
to come back," he whispered,
pressing a gentle kiss to her
forehead. Then he turned to Mr.
Anderson "Grandpa, have an
urgent trip abroad. Please, look after Lucie for me while I'm away."
The old man's face darkened instantly. "Lucie isn't out of danger yet, and you, her
husband, are leaving her now? How could you?"
Steven's expression was heavy,
weighed down by guilt and
helplessness. "Grandpa, I'm really
sorry, but have to go for a
