Chapter 315
"Elio, you must have a death wish, huh?"
Steven's chest was burning with jealousy, sharp and hot like acid. He wanted
nothing more than to rip Elio apart and scatter the pieces.
[Lucie, if you don't answer me, I'm coming over right now.]
Steven took a deep breath, trying to keep his temper in check. Then it hit him.
He quickly typed out a message, pretending to be Lucie:
[Elio, stop bothering me. Don't make me sick. The only man I'll ever love is my husband, Steven. I could never love anyone else, especially not you. Drop it and stop contacting me.]
Send.
He let out a shaky breath. That felt a little better. Today, he was determined to kill any hope Elio had left.
On the other end, Elio read the message and felt his whole world crash down. It was like falling through ice.
He sat there for a while, the pain in his chest slowly fading, then forced himself to call her anyway.
Ring... ring...
Steven hung up immediately and fired off another, even harsher message:
[Why are you like this? Don't you understand simple words? Even a dog gets it. I've spelled it out for you-why do you keep humiliating yourself?]
Elio read it and felt like he'd been hit by lightning. He didn't bother typing anymore and sent a voice message instead.
“Lucie, what's going on? Please pick up. Did I do something wrong again?”
Steven replied: [Stop harassing me, OK?]
Elio sent another voice message, desperate. "Lucie, what happened? treating me like this all of a sudden? Yesterday, you gave me that insanely expensive Madonna statue. That has to mean something. Did my mom say something awful to you?"
are you
"Lucie, no matter what my mom said, don't take it to heart. I love you. No one can change that..."
Hearing Elio's heartfelt confession just made Steven even angrier.
"Unbelievable..."
"She actually gave him that Madonna statue? The one worth ten billion?"
He could barely breathe, like a hammer was smashing his heart to pieces.
When he and Lucie were dating, she'd never given him anything like that. And now, she handed it to Elio without a second thought.
"She's such a fool. Not even married to him yet, and she's already throwing herself at him. Pathetic."
Lucie was pure-hearted and took relationships seriously. Once she fell for someone, she'd give him everything she had. When they first got married, the Heath family was going through a big transition, and Steven had made some risky investments. He'd run into a cash crunch, and Lucie had immediately given him over a billion to help him out. He'd paid her back as soon as he could, but it proved what kind of woman she was generous, trusting, maybe a little too easy to fool.
And now, it looked like another man was about to take advantage of her.
There was no way he'd let his little fool get stolen away.
He thought for a moment, then sent another message:
[That was for sale, not a gift. Pay for it or give it back.]
When Elio read that, his hand shook and the phone slipped, hitting his face.
It wasn't about the gift. He thought he'd finally gotten through to her, that she'd accepted him.
"... Lucie, l'lepay. Just please pick up
I just want to hear your voice. Tell
me
you
hat happened. Even if dit, at least let me knowant
why."
[Nothing happened. I just don't love you, and I don't want any more contact Return the statue of
the cops.
cal
[Have some self-respect. Stop following me around like a stray dog.]
After sending the last message, Steven angrily deleted the whole chat and blocked all of Elio's numbers.
Elio stared at his phone, feeling like the sky was falling. He just couldn't understand how she could change so fast.
Beep... beep...
He tried to video call her again, but all he saw was a red exclamation mark.
"Lucie, do you really hate me this much?"
His heart went cold. He looked at the Madonna statue on the table, completely crushed.
He started coughing so violently that he couldn't stop.
"Young master, what's wrong?"
"Oh my god, call the doctor! He's fainted!"
Back on Steven's side.
Even after deleting Elio's messages, he was still fuming and kept checking Lucie's
call logs for other men.
Half an hour later, a pediatrician
came rushing over, holding a thicket
stack of test results, eyes shining. excitement.
With
"Mr. Heath, good news. Amazing news."
"What is it?" Steven asked.
The doctor was grinning. "Cody's leukemia was a misdiagnosis."
Steven froze, then shot to his feet. "What?"
"After running the tests again and again, we found malaria parasites in Cody's
blood."
