Chapter 710 Fulfilling a Wish

"My dear wife, please let Mia's dad continue. Say, what happened last night?" Sam was wise, knowing

that they didn't take Herbert to the park every day, as it required a lot of energy, and they were too old

to handle it. Herbert went to the park with them only when their housekeeper had some free time in the

morning.

Sam had a hunch that something must have happened last night since Mia suddenly wanted to see

Herbert and even said those words afterward.

"It's not a big deal, and I should take the blame. I was a bit absent-minded and didn't pay full attention

to Mia," Byron said gently, looking at Mia with affectionate eyes. "When she saw Herbert last night, she

couldn't resist calling out to him. Before we knew it, Herbert came running, which startled your

granddaughter. She got a bit frightened and ended up speaking harshly. Then, right in front of Mia, she

harshly tugged on the dog's leash."

Byron's tone softened as he spoke, but there was a subtle sarcastic undertone.

"Oh my, no wonder Mia was so worried," Sam furrowed his brows. "That girl's temper can be quite

problematic sometimes. I'll make sure to scold her when we get back!"

Typically, Byron would have said some comforting words at this point, saying things like, "It's okay, just

a small matter."

But if he did, he wouldn't be Byron.

After listening to Sam's words, Byron only smiled faintly and said nothing else.

Before long, Mia and the golden retriever started playfully running around together.

Sam and Tina, along with Byron, happily stood by and watched.

Suddenly, Sam sighed and explained, "To tell you the truth, Herbert isn't our dog. As you can see, we're

quite old now. There's no way we can handle such a big dog."

Byron looked puzzled and asked, "Then who does Herbert belong to?"

Sam added, "He belongs to my grandson. When he was ten, he begged his parents to buy him a dog

for his birthday. Unfortunately... he passed away in a car accident last year. His parents didn't want to

keep Herbert because it reminded them of their loss. My wife was worried they might give him away to

a family who might not treat him well. So, my wife discussed it with me, and we decided to take him

home and care for him instead."

"Sorry for your loss. My condolences," Byron responded genuinely.

Now, as he had children and Aiden had developed such an illness, he could genuinely empathize with

others.

"You know, we have to thank Mia, too," Tina added, smiling as she wiped the tears from the corner of

her eyes. "We had been grieving all along, but when Mia moved in, she would come to the park every

day to play with us. Mia is such a sweet little kid. She brought us so much comfort."

As she spoke, Tina directed her gaze toward Byron and continued, "You and your wife have done such

an amazing job raising her. She's both lovely and well-behaved. It's truly admirable."

Byron gazed at Mia and said sincerely, "It's all thanks to her mother. I still have much to improve."

Meanwhile, on the second floor.

They could hear the sound of laughter and joy coming from downstairs. Aiden and Logan then leaned

against the window, looking down.

"Our little Mia is just like a Disney princess," Logan commented with a loving smile, tilting his head.

"She can bond and play with any little animal she meets."

Aiden nodded in agreement.

His gaze then fell on Byron.

Aiden made the connection that the Golden Retriever was likely the same Herbert Mia kept mentioning.

He had also heard about what had happened the previous night.

Aiden knew it couldn't be a coincidence that Sam and Tina brought Herbert over.

Byron must have known Mia's concern about Herbert, so he asked them to bring the Golden Retriever.

"Aiden!" Mia suddenly called out.

Perhaps the twins' telepathy was at work.

Mia suddenly turned and looked up at the second floor. When she saw Aiden, she smiled, waved at

him, then whispered into Herbert's floppy ear.

Herbert let out a couple of excited barks toward the balcony on the second floor, wagging his tail

happily.
