Empire 112
This chapter makes a quiet but clear adjustment to the story. Small choices and brief pauses point the plot in a new direction. The shift is steady, not loud, and it sets up what comes next.
A few actions and reactions stand out. A held-back answer, a quick decision, or a look that lingers changes how characters see each other. These beats feel small now but carry weight forward.
Emotions sit just under the surface. The tone shows doubt, hope, or pressure even when the words stay measured. What is not said guides the scene as much as what is spoken.
Earlier choices and old tensions shape how people act here. History does not repeat, but it limits and nudges. The present is easier to read when the past is kept in view.
Trust, distance, and leverage shift by degrees. Roles adjust, and the space between characters changes shape. By the end, connections are not exactly what they were.
Objects, gestures, and setting notes do quiet work. They mirror the mood and hint at motives. Paying attention to them clarifies what is at stake.
Short remarks, paused replies, and choices made too quickly point to what will matter soon. The chapter plants markers that future scenes will pick up.
A few sentences carry the heart of the scene. They show fear, resolve, or longing in simple words. These are the lines that will echo next chapter.
“Oh my God, that look in his eyes is terrifying! Does he even look like a five–year–old?”
“Isn’t this the child Jotham adopted? If you ask me, he should just send the kid away… He’s bound to cause big trouble when he grows up! He might even drag the whole family down with him!”
Normally, hardly anyone bothered to reply in the family group chat, no matter what news came up. But this video was like a stone shattering the surface of a still lake. Everyone was stunned.
One harsh comment after another felt like lashes across Jotham’s face, each one stinging more than the last. His fingers shook as he tried to type out an explanation, but no words came to mind.
While he stood there in a daze, Ramona had already coolly started the car and sped off, leaving him behind.
Jotham instinctively wanted to chase after her, but just then his phone rang.
Winnie’s furious voice blared out: “Jotham! Did you see what your son’s done? He’s made a disgrace of the entire Holt family! Get back here this instant and bring that little brat with you!”
The call ended abruptly with a sharp click.
Jotham stood frozen, his mother’s shrill reprimand and the constant buzz of the family chat echoing in his ears, as if he were being swallowed by a bottomless pit.
It was late at night by the time Jotham finished dealing with everything and returned to Liliane’s hospital room with Milo in tow.
Ramona had gone to the police station to give her statement and refused any mediation. Even though Milo was just a child, the damages were significant and the evidence clear, so he received a formal warning. He’d cried his heart out at the station and now clung tightly to Jotham, hardly daring to breathe.
Jotham himself looked utterly drained. On the way back, unable to hold it together, he’d lost his temper at Milo.
Only then, frightened, did Milo confess the truth.
Turns out, after his argument with Ramona, Milo had felt wronged and called Brianna.
Brianna, furious and protective of her son, rushed over. When she heard what happened, she was livid.
Jotham’s assistant, who knew about Brianna’s relationship with him, was sent away on an errand by Brianna with a flimsy excuse. Then, wanting to help Milo blow off steam, she handed him a metal rod and told him to take it out on Ramona’s car.
She’d checked–there were no cameras in the garage, and Milo was only five; even if he did something reckless, what could Ramona really do? Especially with Jotham around.
But Brianna never imagined Ramona would actually call the police.
After hearing the whole story, for the first time, Jotham felt the urge to divorce Brianna. The Brianna
he once knew was educated, considerate, never this reckless or thoughtless…

Maybe Ramona was right: if a child turns out badly, the fault lies with the father who chose the wrong mother. It was his failure as a parent that had spoiled Milo like this.
When they returned to Liliane’s hospital room, it was already late. Eulalia had gone home, and now only Winnie was left in the room with Liliane.
Just a moment ago, Griffin had called, ordering Winnie to clean up this mess quickly.
The simplest solution was to dissolve Milo’s adoption and send him back to the orphanage. It wouldn’t be hard to handle.
Winnie’s anger had faded; in fact, thinking of Milo smashing up Ramona’s car, she couldn’t help feeling a little smug.
“Who knew you were such a wild kid?” she said with a dismissive chuckle. “What did Ramona do to you that made you go after her car?”
But Liliane shot her a furious glare.
When Liliane had seen the video, she was so worked up that, if not for the nurse, her blood pressure would’ve gone through the roof.
“Apologize. Now,” Jotham said in a stern voice. He’d already lectured Milo all the way here on how important it was to apologize, or else things would only get worse.
Milo, terrified, pressed his hands to his sides, bowed deeply, and stammered out the apology Jotham had drilled into him.
“I won’t do it again… I promise I’ll behave, I won’t throw any more tantrums or act out… I swear!”
“Your apology should be to Ramona!” Liliane was so angry she could barely breathe. She’d only been away for a short while. How had things in this family fallen apart so quickly?
Jotham had dared to go against Alaric’s will, and even Milo, just a child, was acting out of control!
“I’ll make sure he apologizes to Ramona,” Jotham muttered, his face clouded with gloom.
“Jotham, just how have you been raising this child?” Liliane demanded. “How could you… how could you let Ramona catch all this on video?”
In the end, what made things so difficult was that Ramona had proof. Now, it would cost even more to keep Ramona quiet.
“All right,” Winnie said briskly. “Just get the paperwork done tomorrow. Milo isn’t right for the Holt family. Send him back. I’ll explain everything to the family, say Milo’s not your child anymore. Ramona won’t have anything to hold over you then.”
She smiled, thinking of something that pleased her. “Besides, didn’t Ramona get misdiagnosed? Since she can have children, you’d better hurry up and have one with her. That’ll settle her down for good!”
Once Ramona had a child, she’d be tied more tightly to the Holt family than ever. Then let’s see if she could still throw her weight around!
The scene closes, but its pressure does not. Something has shifted, and the next step will have to meet it. The feeling is unfinished on purpose.
Expect tighter tension and fewer safe options. Hidden truths may press forward. The path ahead should feel earned and a bit sharper.
Which choice will echo the longest? Who revealed the most by saying the least? How might today’s restraint become tomorrow’s turning point?
Rules, memory, and the setting frame each decision. Inside that frame, even small moves gain size. The chapter belongs to its world as much as to its people. Follow current novᴇls on ⓝovelFind.net
