Empire 116
This chapter makes a quiet but clear adjustment to the story. Small choices and brief pauses point the plot in a new direction. The shift is steady, not loud, and it sets up what comes next.
A few actions and reactions stand out. A held-back answer, a quick decision, or a look that lingers changes how characters see each other. These beats feel small now but carry weight forward.
Emotions sit just under the surface. The tone shows doubt, hope, or pressure even when the words stay measured. What is not said guides the scene as much as what is spoken.
Earlier choices and old tensions shape how people act here. History does not repeat, but it limits and nudges. The present is easier to read when the past is kept in view.
Trust, distance, and leverage shift by degrees. Roles adjust, and the space between characters changes shape. By the end, connections are not exactly what they were.
Objects, gestures, and setting notes do quiet work. They mirror the mood and hint at motives. Paying attention to them clarifies what is at stake.
Short remarks, paused replies, and choices made too quickly point to what will matter soon. The chapter plants markers that future scenes will pick up.
A few sentences carry the heart of the scene. They show fear, resolve, or longing in simple words. These are the lines that will echo next chapter.
Chapter 116
It was all about pooling resources, forging powerful alliances, mutual support, but definitely nothing to do with feelings.
At first, Ramona only saw Ethan as an ideal business partner. But now, after spending more time together, she’d found herself developing a fondness for him, maybe even a sense of anticipation. She was terrified of missing the subtle shifts in his mood.
“Alright.”
Ethan’s reply was as gentle as ever, as if, in his eyes, whatever Ramona said was always worth agreeing to.
She used to think Jotham’s constant compliance was a kind of tolerance. But being with Ethan made her realize genuine acceptance was woven into every gesture of care and understanding.
Ethan could spot her needs even before she recognized them herself.
Worried about making Ethan wait, Ramona rushed out of the bathroom with her hair still damp, not bothering to dry it completely.
Ethan had showered, too, but he moved with quick efficiency and was already settled on the sofa, waiting for her.
He hadn’t brought a change of clothes, so Ash had made an emergency delivery, but Ramona hadn’t heard a thing the whole time.
Now, Ethan was lounging in a black silk robe, the collar falling open to reveal a glimpse of his chest, still glistening faintly from the shower.
Thank God the lights were dim, otherwise, Ramona wasn’t sure she’d be able to keep her composure. Ethan was irresistible when fully dressed, but like this, with his robe hanging loose, he was walking temptation.
“Mr. Jordon, what’s got you so busy?” Ramona whispered, sidling up quietly and leaning in close to his ear.
Ethan was hunched over his phone, focused on something that looked like work. At the sound of her voice, his fingers twitched and he quickly locked the screen.
“Nothing important,” he replied smoothly, his voice low, carrying the faintest chill.
“Is something urgent going on again?” Ramona caught the slight furrow of his brow and felt a flicker
of concern.
“No,” he said.
Ramona looked like she wanted to press further, but he pulled her gently into his arms. “Why were you upset today? Talk to me about it.”
She hadn’t expected Ethan to remember. The thought touched her.
“It’s just a bunch of bad stuff. Telling you would only drag you down with me,” Ramona murmured.
Besides, she had no intention of telling Ethan about her plan to get back at Jotham.
Ethan was nothing like his intimidating appearance: he was deeply gentle, nothing like her own battered, angry heart, still harboring so much resentment and pain. So until she managed to clear all that away, she wasn’t ready for him to see her as she really was.
Seeing Ramona’s reluctance, Ethan didn’t press her further.
“You still haven’t finished dealing with your previous issues?” he asked after a while.
It took Ramona a second to realize he meant Jotham.
“Not yet, but I’m almost done. There are still a few things I need to take care of.” Fresh chapters posted on find{n}ovel.net
“Do you need any help?” Ethan offered again.
Ramona shook her head lightly. “No, I can handle it myself.”
You don’t need a sledgehammer to crack a nut, she thought. Besides, when it came to Jotham, how could she let Ethan dirty his hands? She wanted to make Jotham pay for every bit he’d taken from her over the last six years. Slowly.
Ethan let the silence stretch. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her close, but in his chest, his heart felt like it was sinking into a glacier–a cold, wordless ache.
Moments earlier, he’d received a few messages: blurry photos of Ramona and a man, arguing in a hospital hallway.
So, she’d gone to see Jotham tonight. Was that why she’d been in such a bad mood? Because of
him?
Ramona and that man had been together for six years; he’d been her first love. Even if he’d betrayed her, did she still struggle to let go?
Ethan wanted to ask–he turned the question over in his mind again and again–but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud.
He understood that you couldn’t just sweep away years of feelings overnight. Still, knowing she might still have someone else in her heart made it hard to breathe, left a sour taste in his mouth.
Ramona was exhausted. She barely made it through a few scenes of the movie, exchanged only a handful of words, and drifted off to sleep, curled against Ethan’s side.
It was a horror film, but Ramona slept soundly, her hand clinging tightly to Ethan’s arm, refusing to let go even when he gently carried her to bed.
The room was dark, but moonlight spilled in through the window, casting its pale glow over half of Ramona’s face.
It left her striking features half–illuminated like an angel, half–sculpted by the cool, mysterious shadow of the night.
Ethan watched her, lost in thought. He brushed his fingers over her relaxed brow, traced the bridge of her nose down to her lips, feeling the warmth of her breath flow softly against his fingertips.
“Ramona,” he whispered.

She frowned slightly in her sleep, murmuring in response, as if she heard him.
Ethan’s lips curled in a faint smile, half speaking to her, half to himself: “From now on, I want to be the only one in your heart. No more room for anyone else.”
The next morning, Ramona woke later than usual.
Her bedroom was always filled with sunlight–she never closed the curtains all the way, preferring to let the dawn wake her naturally.
But last night, Ethan had drawn the drapes for her, letting her sleep in for two extra hours.
She expected to find Ethan still in the apartment, but when she stepped out of her room, he was already gone.
She’d prepared the guest room for him, but it looked untouched, the sheets perfectly smooth. He must have left in the middle of the night.
A faint disappointment crept in. The first thing she’d thought of when she opened her eyes was sharing breakfast with him. But of course, Ethan wasn’t the kind of man who had time for lazy breakfasts every morning.
Just then, her phone buzzed. A message from Ethan lit up her screen.
The scene closes, but its pressure does not. Something has shifted, and the next step will have to meet it. The feeling is unfinished on purpose.
Expect tighter tension and fewer safe options. Hidden truths may press forward. The path ahead should feel earned and a bit sharper.
Which choice will echo the longest? Who revealed the most by saying the least? How might today’s restraint become tomorrow’s turning point?
Rules, memory, and the setting frame each decision. Inside that frame, even small moves gain size. The chapter belongs to its world as much as to its people.
With this chapter done, the story steps forward—quieter, clearer, and ready to show what those choices mean.
