Empire 65
This chapter makes a quiet but clear adjustment to the story. Small choices and brief pauses point the plot in a new direction. The shift is steady, not loud, and it sets up what comes next.
A few actions and reactions stand out. A held-back answer, a quick decision, or a look that lingers changes how characters see each other. These beats feel small now but carry weight forward.
Emotions sit just under the surface. The tone shows doubt, hope, or pressure even when the words stay measured. What is not said guides the scene as much as what is spoken.
Earlier choices and old tensions shape how people act here. History does not repeat, but it limits and nudges. The present is easier to read when the past is kept in view.
Trust, distance, and leverage shift by degrees. Roles adjust, and the space between characters changes shape. By the end, connections are not exactly what they were.
Objects, gestures, and setting notes do quiet work. They mirror the mood and hint at motives. Paying attention to them clarifies what is at stake.
Short remarks, paused replies, and choices made too quickly point to what will matter soon. The chapter plants markers that future scenes will pick up.
A few sentences carry the heart of the scene. They show fear, resolve, or longing in simple words. These are the lines that will echo next chapter.

The moment Ramona walked in, the elderly woman was the first to rise. Petite and her way over with surprising agility, giving Ramona a once–over before reaching out
Ramona hesitated for a split second, but when she saw the woman’s warm, almos smile, she couldn’t bring herself to pull away.
“Yes, I’m Ramona. May I ask who you are…?”
“Oh, we’re just here to take a little tour of Covington Group. We’ve heard so much about the new Covington heir–so young, so beautiful, and so accomplished-”
“Ahem.”
The old woman’s string of compliments was cut short by a gentle cough from the gentleman behind her. He shot her a look, a silent reminder not to go overboard.
He then stepped forward himself, his tone a bit more formal. “We’re here to visit Covington Group. My wife is simply very curious and wanted to see the famous Covington heiress for herself.”
“I see,” Ramona replied.
Their gazes lingered on her–direct, without a trace of disguise, but radiating nothing but kindness and warmth.
Ramona had grown up without family nearby. Not once in her life had an elder looked at her with such open affection, and the older generation of the Holt family certainly hadn’t been easygoing. The unexpected sense of closeness brought a rush of warmth that left her momentarily at a loss. Sensing the awkwardness, the manager and a couple of Covington Group executives quickly stepped in to help.
It turned out the couple’s request was simple: they just wanted Ramona to accompany them on a stroll through the nearby mall–just an hour or two.
“Aren’t they here to tour Covington Group? Why the sudden change of plans?” Ramona whispered, puzzled.
One of the executives pulled her aside and dropped his voice to a whisper. “Ms. Jarrett, I know this is unexpected and not really part of your responsibilities, but these two are incredibly important. Covington Group really can’t afford to offend them.”
“Covington Group can’t afford to offend them? Who exactly are they?” Ramona’s curiosity only grew: after all this time, neither of the elders had even mentioned their names.
“Well… it’s really not convenient to say. They specifically asked for discretion–the fewer people who know, the better. They said it’s…a sort of low–profile visit. Maybe if you ask them yourself, they’ll tell you.”
Before Ramona could say more, the elderly woman walked back over, her tone still earnest. “Ms Jarrett, it wasn’t easy for us to make this trip. We were on a plane for nearly eight hours. It would mean so much if you could spare us a little of your time… If you’re too busy though

Chapter 65
She trailed off, sneaking a quick, uncertain glance at her husband.
The old gentleman immediately chimed in, sounding almost hopeful, “Then we’ll just wait here until you’re finished with your work. There’s no rush.”
Ramona stared at the two pairs of sincere, expectant eyes. On one hand, she had unfinished work, on the other, these travel–worn elders looked at her with such gentle anticipation. She had never been able to bear letting elders down, let alone these two, who treated her with such warmth.
Her earlier awkwardness melted away, replaced with a gentle resolve. She glanced at her watch and relented. “I have a free hour right now. Why don’t I take you for a little walk?”
“Oh, wonderful!” The old woman’s face lit up, her crow’s feet crinkling into the gentlest smile. She looked at her husband with a joy that was almost childlike, her voice bright and light, as if she’d just been given a sweet treat.
Chapter 66
The scene closes, but its pressure does not. Something has shifted, and the next step will have to meet it. The feeling is unfinished on purpose. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ find[ɴ]ovel.net
Expect tighter tension and fewer safe options. Hidden truths may press forward. The path ahead should feel earned and a bit sharper.
Which choice will echo the longest? Who revealed the most by saying the least? How might today’s restraint become tomorrow’s turning point?
Rules, memory, and the setting frame each decision. Inside that frame, even small moves gain size. The chapter belongs to its world as much as to its people.
With this chapter done, the story steps forward—quieter, clearer, and ready to show what those choices mean.
