This chapter makes a quiet but clear adjustment to the story. Small choices and brief pauses point the plot in a new direction. The shift is steady, not loud, and it sets up what comes next.

A few actions and reactions stand out. A held-back answer, a quick decision, or a look that lingers changes how characters see each other. These beats feel small now but carry weight forward.

Emotions sit just under the surface. The tone shows doubt, hope, or pressure even when the words stay measured. What is not said guides the scene as much as what is spoken.

Earlier choices and old tensions shape how people act here. History does not repeat, but it limits and nudges. The present is easier to read when the past is kept in view.

Trust, distance, and leverage shift by degrees. Roles adjust, and the space between characters changes shape. By the end, connections are not exactly what they were.

Objects, gestures, and setting notes do quiet work. They mirror the mood and hint at motives. Paying attention to them clarifies what is at stake.

Short remarks, paused replies, and choices made too quickly point to what will matter soon. The chapter plants markers that future scenes will pick up.

A few sentences carry the heart of the scene. They show fear, resolve, or longing in simple words. These are the lines that will echo next chapter.

“Oh, I just wanted to ask, Mr. Jordon, are you free for dinner tomorrow night?”

Ethan paused, as if waiting for something. He glanced over at Ash and reached out for his planner. After a quick look, it was obvious that tomorrow was packed from morning to night.

Ash couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.

Ethan was always working, year–round. Now that he finally had a fiancée, they barely had any time together.

“I’m free.”

But after reviewing his schedule, Ethan’s expression didn’t change as he answered.

Ash was stunned, momentarily unsure if he should remind Ethan that tomorrow’s appointments were absolutely unmovable.

“Really?” Ramona sounded genuinely surprised, her voice brightening immediately. “Then I’ll pick out the restaurant. My treat, Mr. Jordon, I’ll send you the address later.”

“Alright.” Ethan’s reply was soft, uncharacteristically gentle.

When he hung up, Ash even noticed a hint of a smile lingering at the corners of Ethan’s mouth. This text is hosted at FιndNovel.net

“Sir… about tomorrow’s schedule…”

“What’s so important about tomorrow?” Ethan asked, as though he hadn’t heard Ash at all.

“Tomorrow…” Ash thought for a moment, quickly checked his phone, then exclaimed, “Sir, tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day!”

He suddenly understood.

“Ah, Ms. Jarrett wants to spend Valentine’s Day with you!”

For couples, a holiday like this was a big deal. No wonder Ethan was willing to push things aside.

A shadow flickered in Ethan’s eyes.

Valentine’s Day…

That morning, Florence had pressed him to invite Ramona home for dinner tomorrow, reminding him. to buy her a gift for the holiday. He’d been in a rush to leave, so he hadn’t thought much about it until

now.

Even if Ramona hadn’t called, he would have checked the date and made arrangements anyway.

But she’d called first. Did that mean… she’d been thinking about him too?

Meanwhile, with Jotham looking after her, Brianna was finally feeling a bit better.

She’d been so upset at the store that she felt her blood pressure spike, her legs give out, and her vision blur. Passing out had been half genuine, half deliberate.

She simply couldn’t take it–watching Jotham grovel to Ramona like that! It was more than she could stand; she’d nearly lost the will to live.

Thankfully, at the critical moment, Jotham’s first instinct had still been to worry about her. The moment she fainted, he’d abandoned Ramona and rushed Brianna to the hospital instead.

He’d made sure the doctor prescribed something for her, then waited by her side until she recovered, even cooking her dinner himself when they got home.

“Jotham, Ramona is just impossible. You saw how she treated me and you today, didn’t you?”

She paused, watching him blow on a bowl of hot seafood chowder he was about to feed her. Suddenly, she grabbed his arm, her eyes shimmering with tears.

“Maybe… maybe we should just tell everyone the truth. I’m having your child. No matter how much your parents hate me, they’ll have to accept it, right?”

Seeing Brianna so distraught, Jotham’s heart ached. But every word she said only made things

harder.

“Brianna, you know my parents‘ temper. And even if they did accept everything we’ve done… what about the company?”

He couldn’t let the family fall apart and drag the business down with it.

Brianna knew he’d never agree to her suggestion, but she couldn’t swallow her anger. She pushed away the spoon at her lips.

“If Ramona comes back to the company, your whole family will be at her beck and call. What’s left for me to hope for?”

“She won’t,” Jotham said. “Once she’s back, I’ll work things out with her, slowly.”

But thinking of Ramona made him feel suffocated. He hadn’t had a chance to explain things to her earlier, and when he called later, she’d only replied coldly, telling him to look after Brianna first.

It sounded like jealousy… or maybe she just didn’t care at all.

“You want to work things out with her? And what about me?”

Suddenly, Brianna felt like the man before her was a stranger. Ten years–she’d given everything for Jotham. And now, right in front of her, he was trying to win over another woman!

“I’m doing this for the company, for the IPO. Once the company goes public, as my legal wife, you’ll benefit the most. You already have more than Ramona, so why do you have to make things difficult right now?”

Jotham’s patience snapped. He set the bowl down and stood up.

Brianna called after him, but he didn’t look back. In a fury, she hurled the bowl across the room. Scalding soup splattered everywhere, and porcelain shards grazed Jotham’s arm, leaving a bleeding

cut.

He spun around, livid. “You’ve completely lost it. I think you need to calm down. Let’s not talk for a while.”

With that, Jotham slammed the door and left.

Brianna chased him downstairs, but he just drove off. She broke down completely, sobbing until she was breathless. The whole night, she called him again and again, but he never answered.

It was the first time since they’d met that Jotham had ever given her the silent treatment.

They’d promised, no matter how bad the fight, never to go more than an hour without making up. Whenever she was upset, he’d come to her immediately. No matter how angry, he’d never ignore her

calls.

But now… everything had changed.

The next evening.

Ramona took extra care with her appearance and arrived early at the small, reservation–only bistro.

It wasn’t until she saw the restaurant decorated with roses and candles that she realized it was

Valentine’s Day.

The scene closes, but its pressure does not. Something has shifted, and the next step will have to meet it. The feeling is unfinished on purpose.

Expect tighter tension and fewer safe options. Hidden truths may press forward. The path ahead should feel earned and a bit sharper.

Which choice will echo the longest? Who revealed the most by saying the least? How might today’s restraint become tomorrow’s turning point?

Rules, memory, and the setting frame each decision. Inside that frame, even small moves gain size. The chapter belongs to its world as much as to its people.

With this chapter done, the story steps forward—quieter, clearer, and ready to show what those choices mean.
