Chapter 180
He couldn't quite put his finger on the mentality that had driven him to bring Liliana here.
But he was very satisfied with how tactfully she was behaving.
Douglas paused for a moment before saying softly, "Whose family she's from isn't important. What's important is that right now, I just want to focus on my work."
"You child," Chloe said, a little angry. "Work is endless, but fate doesn't wait! Don't miss your chance!"
"Mrs. Sewell has a point. Mr. Sewell should consider settling down first," Cedric added in agreement.
To Montgomery and Chloe, his words sounded like a clear expression of his displeasure with the Sewell family's move into real estate.
Montgomery immediately changed the subject. "He's definitely just making excuses because he doesn't want to get married. If the Forrest family comes across anyone suitable, please feel free to make an introduction."
"First, we should ask if Douglas has any requirements or standards."
Stoddard joined in. "Does it have to be someone from a family of equal status?"
Chloe opened her mouth to speak, but Douglas interrupted her. "No, that's not necessary. As long as we click."
"Well, there are many excellent young women out there..."
In an instant, the elders were all chattering away, discussing the matter.
Liliana didn't participate in the conversation at all.
She was seriously wondering when Cedric had become so childish and petty.
Since entering, she had just sat there, letting Cedric control the situation.
She could feel Cedric's gaze landing on her from time to time.
Especially when they were discussing Douglas's potential partner, his eyes were practically glued to her.
She shouldn't have taken the day off for this pointless exercise.
But if she hadn't come, she wouldn't have gotten her allowance.
About an hour later, the gathering finally broke up.
The Sewells left first. After they were gone, Mirabelle had a few words with Cedric.
"What are your thoughts on the Sewell family's move?"
Cedric was concise. "There's nothing to worry about. They can't touch the Forrest family's foundation."
"Then why didn't you just give them the green light?" Mirabelle frowned. "By constantly telling them to prioritize Douglas's marriage weren't you essentially rejecting their proposal?"
"I was just stating the facts," Cedric said, his expression cool as he slid one hand into his pocket. He really should start a family before focusing on his career."
That way he wouldn't be idle all day with enough free time to go to exhibitions with Liliana.
The man had no sense of propriety. Didn't he know Liliana was his wife?
Mirabelle was baffled by his unusual behavior. "Is that really any of your concern?"
"Honey, it's getting late. Let's go home." Stoddard came over, putting an arm around Mirabelle and guiding her toward the car Yourascal, stop making your mother angry.
Cedric had come in the same car as them. For the return trip, he would ride with Liliana.
Liliana respectfully saw them off, finally getting a chance to speak with Cedric alone.
"When are you going to give me my allowance?"
"Besides money, is there nothing else you want to say?" Cedric leaned against the car, his posture casual and lazy, yet exuding an air of superiority.
"If I don't say anything, you won't pay?" Liliana truly had nothing to say.
But Cedric's gaze was insistent. He raised an eyebrow at her, his meaning obvious.
Liliana summed up his behavior for the day and asked pointedly, "You're so bothered by me and Douglas. Are you jealous?"
As her words fell, Cedric's eyes narrowed slightly. For a moment, a wave of confusion rising from deep within him threatened to overwhelm him.
Right, why *had* he arranged for Liliana to come?
Would a woman who chased after him for a title really have a change of heart and fall for someone else?
Jealous? He scoffed. "Jealous? Are you worthy? I was just giving you a chance to appear in public openly as Mrs. Forrest. How did it feel?"
