Chapter 190
"Dr. Sterling, my son will be in your care from now on..."
He had asked someone to get in touch with Jude, and after Jude was replaced, he had proactively contacted Chuck to inform him of the situation.
Jude's assessment of Leroy was fair-he didn't know where he came from, but he was clearly very skilled.
So, Chuck was content to let Leroy treat Hale.
"How much?" Leroy released his hand, eyeing the card with interest.
Chuck was speechless.
He had given Jude money too-two thousand dollars. But business had been getting worse, and he didn't have that much to spare anymore.
He made a gesture with his hand. "Six hundred."
"And how exactly do you want me to take care of your son?" Leroy toyed with the card, looking thoughtful. "Should I give him an extra six hundred dollars' worth of oxygen?"
Hearing this, Vida whispered to Chuck, "Honey, I think he's saying it's not enough." Chuck patted his pockets, reluctant to pull out any more cash.
His eyes landed on Liliana.
Liliana was rubbing her elbow, which was sore from being pushed, when Chuck suddenly grabbed her arm.
He dragged her in front of Leroy.
"Doctor, whatever you want, ask my daughter. She has plenty of money."
Leroy's expression toward the Prestons soured. "There's nothing more for you to do here. You can go home. I need to speak with Miss Preston."
Fearing he would ask for more money and that Liliana would throw the hot potato back to him, Chuck grabbed Vida and bolted.
As long as Hale's life wasn't in danger, that was all that mattered!
Liliana stood stiffly, looking at Leroy with unease. "Dr. Sterling, I don't make a high salary. You..."
"Here." Leroy pressed the card into Liliana's hand. "I heard from Dr. Brooks that you're not only deeply involved in your brother's condition but have also taken on all the medical bills and everything else. It must be tough. I don't want money. As a physician, my only goal is to save lives."
He finished by giving Liliana a gentle pat on the shoulder.
This young woman seemed to have it rough.
His gaze shifted to the spot behind her where Cedric had been standing, which was now empty.
"Thank you, Dr. Sterling." Liliana put the card away and also turned to look at the spot where Cedric had been.
Cedric must have just been passing by and stopped for a moment when he saw what was happening with Hale.
Just for a moment.
She looked away and back at Leroy. "The caregiver told me a woman came and caused a scene. Can I see the hospital's security footage?"
"Of course I have my assistant take you. Leroy led her to his office and asked a boy who looked about eighteen or nineteen to take her view the security footage from Hale's ward.
Liliana followed the young man out.
No sooner had she left than Cedric walked into Leroy's office.
"How is he?"
"His life is not in danger," Leroy said, twirling a pen in his hand and grinning. "So, Cedric, are you close with Miss Preston, or do you know Hale?"
Cedric pulled out a chair and straddled it, his posture relaxed and confident. "Have you decided on a treatment plan?"
Leroy nodded, "I've already
discussed it with Miss Preston.
Every evening from eight to ten, she'll come in to assist me with the patient's psychological therapy She agreed. Do you have a problem with. that?"
"No problem." Cedric thought to himself that some things could wait.
"Well, well. What exactly is your relationship with Miss Preston?" Leroy was now convinced there was something unusual between them because of that one comment.
Cedric ignored him and stood up to leave.
Leroy slammed his hand on the desk
and stood up. "If you're trying to pursue her you'd better step up your game. Someone else asked me to help her brother, and he seems a lot nicer, more handsome, and more considerate than you!"
The man had one foot out the door, but he retracted it upon hearing those words.
He hooked the door with his foot to close it and walked back into the office, standing directly in front of Leroy. "Douglas?"
