At that moment, Jacob pressed the answer button and casually said, “Hey, Claire, I’m back with Charlie.”

Jacob gasped in shock, dropping the phone which slipped into a gap.

Ignoring the phone, he turned to Claire in alarm, “C-C-Claire???? What are you doing in the car?”

Claire shot back, “Why shouldn’t I be in the car? If I weren’t here, I wouldn’t have discovered that you’ve been cheating!”

Jacob seemed to lose his composure, exclaiming, “Oh, don’t start with that nonsense! When did I cheat?”

Claire replied, “You and Matilda are exchanging such expensive gifts and sneaking around behind Mom’s back! How is that not cheating?”

Jacob quickly defended himself, “This isn’t cheating! Matilda and I have always maintained a respectful distance; we’ve never crossed any lines. Besides, your mother and I are separated and have no feelings left. Divorce is just a matter of time. Even if it were cheating, it would be the start of a new relationship!”

Claire’s face flushed with anger, tears welling in her eyes as she exclaimed, “How can you do this? I used to think you were a good father and husband. But now, I can’t believe how far you’ve fallen. You’ve been with Mom for over 20 years! Even if love is gone, there should still be some family affection. You at least owe her that respect!”

Jacob insisted, “I’m not disrespecting her! If I were, I would’ve just reconciled with Matilda. It’s precisely because I respect your mother that I need to formalize the divorce and then pursue a relationship with Matilda!”

Yet she chose to sleep with me while I was intoxicated, then bragged to Matilda, forcing her to move away. After that, your mother got pregnant with you and coerced me into marrying her. She’s the one with no morals!”
