The Amazing son in law Chapter 522
Charlie nodded in agreement, saying, “Yes, Mr. White informed me that the renovations will be finished next month, and we can move in then.”
Claire replied, “Is it really a good idea to move in right after the work is done? Shouldn’t we wait a bit for the paint smell and other odors to dissipate?”
Elaine chimed in, “Oh, don’t worry! I visited the site with your dad the other day. They used imported, eco-friendly materials that are completely free of formaldehyde. There was hardly any smell at all in the house! Plus, they’ve installed an advanced air purification system that circulates fresh air 24/7, making it really healthy!”
Claire nodded silently. While she felt somewhat indifferent to the idea of moving into the Thompson First villa, she recognized that Charlie was right. Once they moved, they wouldn’t be on the same floor as her parents, which meant they would have more privacy and personal space—something that was sorely lacking in their current living situation.
Additionally, Claire had promised Loreen that she would save a room for her in the villa and invite her to live there. It was hardly fair for a girl to stay alone in a hotel.
As for Charlie, he was largely unfazed by the villa. Having lived a luxurious life until he was eight, he spent the rest of his childhood and adolescence in an orphanage. Now, he had reached a point where he found little joy in material possessions and was not troubled by personal losses.
At that moment, Elaine received a text that made her smile. She glanced up, her eyes sparkling, and said, “An old friend invited me over to play eight rounds of mahjong this afternoon. I won’t be home for dinner.”
Jacob expressed his surprise, “Eight rounds? Isn’t that going to take around ten hours?” ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ find(ɴ)ovel.net
Elaine rolled her eyes. “What if it does? I used to play for two days straight when I was younger!”
Jacob adopted a more persuasive tone. “You mentioned that you were younger then, but you’re not now! Long hours of sitting can lead to all sorts of health issues—lumbar disc herniation, cervical problems, high blood pressure—all because of sitting too long.”
Elaine waved her hand dismissively. “Oh, come on! I’m feeling perfectly fine; don’t jinx me!”
Claire frowned, concern etched on her face. “Mom, I don’t mind you playing mahjong for fun, but I have two requests: First, don’t play for too long, and second, please avoid games where you could potentially win or lose thousands per round, okay?”
“Ugh, you’re such a killjoy! We’re just playing to pass the time!” Elaine retorted nonchalantly. “Besides, I’m doing this for our family! Look at your dad—he’s a loser. And Charlie? Not only is he a loser, but he’s also a liar who goes around deceiving people. I’m sure he’ll bring trouble to our family! And you, you’re just starting your business and haven’t made any money yet. How else can your dad and I retire comfortably? I’m counting on mahjong to bring in some extra income!”
Charlie felt a surge of irritation at his mother-in-law’s harsh words. She still found ways to mock him, branding him a liar. In his mind, he envisioned a scene where he would confront her, saying, “If you believe I’m such a liar, then don’t move into the villa I secured through deceit!”
His mother-in-law certainly needed to learn some lessons of her own!
