The Amazing son in law Chapter 556
“A class reunion?” Elaine scoffed, “You all are practically a bunch of elderly folks. Why would you want to gather? Haven’t you heard? A class reunion is merely a cover for former lovers to rekindle their old flames!”
“Oh come on, just stop!” Jacob interjected, “It’s only going to be guys at the reunion. We didn’t invite any of our female classmates.”
“Really?” Elaine raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.
“Yes, I promise! You know how our class was. There were only a few girls, and all of them live abroad now. So, it’s just going to be us guys at the reunion.”
“No way, I don’t buy it! You can’t go!” Elaine exclaimed, her voice rising. “You must be planning to meet up with that old flame of yours! Do you think I’m oblivious?”
Charlie was taken aback. Did his father-in-law actually have a romantic history he didn’t know about?
“What old flame? It’s just a gathering of male friends!” ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ f͟i͟n͟d͟n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟.net
Elaine rolled her eyes, turning her face away in annoyance and ignoring Jacob.
Jacob, feeling desperate, tried again, “Charlie has to come with me anyway. Our teacher is in a wheelchair now, and there’s no elevator on campus. We need some strong young men to help lift him to the classroom on the fifth floor. Let Charlie be my eyes and report back to you. If there’s a female there, I’ll face the consequences!”
Elaine growled, “No, I won’t allow it!”
Now clearly frustrated, Jacob exclaimed, “My old friends and I haven’t seen each other in years! How can I miss this?! Plus, our teacher is in his eighties—this might be the last chance I get to see him!”
Claire, observing the heated exchange, chimed in, “Mom, just let Dad go. It’s tough to organize a reunion at his age. You wouldn’t want him to be the punchline for missing it, would you?”
Elaine shot her a glare, responding, “What do you know? Your dad was involved with a vixen from his class for ages. If I hadn’t pulled a few tricks, he would have ended up with her, and you wouldn’t even be here!”
Charlie found this remark strange and somewhat amusing. It sounded like Elaine was the one who had stolen Jacob away, yet she acted as if she was being the rational one.
Jacob turned crimson with embarrassment and snapped at Elaine, “Enough! Don’t air our dirty laundry in front of the kids!”
Then he quickly turned to Claire, his voice laced with urgency, “Claire, don’t believe your mom’s wild stories. She always spins tales to make me look bad…”
Claire felt her cheeks flush. She wasn’t interested in her parents’ romantic past, so she suggested to Elaine, “Mom, let Dad go to the reunion, and you can play mahjong instead. Doesn’t that sound good?”
Jacob’s eyes widened in disbelief as he retorted, “Alright, if you don’t let me go to the reunion, then you can’t go play mahjong either! We’ll just stay home and stare at each other!”
Elaine was furious, shouting back, “Are you kidding me? I’m going to win big at mahjong! Summer is heading to the U.S. soon, and I have to play a few more games with her before she leaves. I can win at least three to five thousand per game!”
Then she turned to Charlie, urgency in her tone, “Charlie, you must go with your dad! Call me the moment you see a woman at the reunion. I’ll make sure to give him a piece of my mind!”
