The Amazing son in law Chapter 983
Upon hearing that Charlie planned to donate one million dollars to the orphanage, Jeff was instantly skeptical. With a mocking grin, he retorted, “Charlie, you really excel at bragging. Are you honestly claiming you can donate a million dollars? It seems like you’re just trying to save face while hiding your own troubles. Can you even scrape together that kind of money?”
Charlie responded casually, “If I said it, I’ll follow through. I won’t be like you and stage a car accident just to back out of my promise!” For original chapters go to fındnovel.net
Jeff realized Charlie was intentionally mocking him. The memory of the earlier car crash made him seethe with anger toward Charlie.
Thinking back, Jeff regretted his earlier decision to retract his own promise. He now believed it would have been wiser to donate his car. After all, the losses he faced were substantial!
Yet, Jeff still doubted Charlie’s ability to make such a hefty donation.
With a sneer, he said, “Don’t think I’m unaware of your situation. You’re just a live-in son-in-law, reliant on your wife. There’s no way you could come up with that kind of money. Are you planning to rob a bank?”
At that moment, Harry joined in to support Jeff. “Charlie, you should stop pretending to be someone you’re not. What do you hope to gain by being so fake? It’s better to act according to your means. Don’t risk everything just to impress us, only to end up blaming us later.”
Charlie smirked nonchalantly and replied, “You don’t need to worry about whether I’m robbing a bank or not. Regardless, I’ll be able to donate one million dollars to the orphanage. But tell me, if I can manage that, how much do you think you could donate?”
Jeff laughed and declared, “If you can donate one million, then I can donate ten million! Anyone can boast, right?”
At that moment, most of the people at the table burst into laughter.
They all believed Charlie was merely trying to save face.
They might have accepted it if Charlie had claimed he would donate eighty thousand or a hundred thousand dollars. After all, his wife drove a BMW, indicating they weren’t lacking in funds.
However, the idea of Charlie donating one million dollars seemed far-fetched. He wouldn’t even be able to raise that amount by selling his wife’s BMW!
Among those present, only Mrs. Lewis, Lisa, and Claire, Charlie’s wife, truly believed in him.
Mrs. Lewis and Lisa knew Charlie’s character well enough to trust that he would never make a promise he couldn’t keep.
As for Claire, she simply accepted Charlie’s abilities.
After all, Charlie could easily earn one or two million dollars just by advising someone on their Feng Shui. Thus, she believed it would be a piece of cake for him to donate one million dollars to the orphanage.
In a low voice, Claire asked Charlie, “Are you secretly looking at other people’s Feng Shui without telling me?”
Charlie nodded with a smile, saying, “Yes, it’s Aunt Matilda’s son, Paul. Didn’t he move his law firm to Aurous Hill? He asked me to check his Feng Shui.”
Claire seemed embarrassed as she responded, “Are you really taking advantage of our close acquaintances? Doesn’t that seem a bit inappropriate?”
“How can you say I’m taking advantage of him?” Charlie replied earnestly. “We both agreed to it!”
Feeling helpless, Claire asked, “So how much did you charge him?”
Charlie smiled and replied, “One million dollars.”
Claire rubbed her temples and said, “You’re so ruthless… charging that much from our own acquaintance…”
Unbeknownst to Claire, Paul had actually committed to paying Charlie a total of ten million dollars.
He was doing so in two installments.
The first check was for one million dollars, with another check for nine million to follow.
Charlie had originally planned that he wouldn’t mind donating the entire ten million dollars to the orphanage.
