Oh goddess, I swear she tastes even better than I remembered. And she smells heavenly. Since I want to make sure that she and everyone else knows that we’re together, I don’t hold back when I kiss her.

At first, her body goes rigid, but she doesn’t push me away, and after a moment, she relaxes into the kiss. Since I’m enjoying myself, I don’t stop, reminding myself of how good she tastes, how perfect she feels in my arms, how good she smells, and how her scent increases the longer I kiss her.

When I feel sufficiently drunk on Sloane, I pull back. “Hi,” I murmur.

“Hi,” she says, looking dazed.

“Yeah, I’m going to need a bit more information about what’s going on here,” Scarlet says.

I tuck Sloane under my arm and turn to Scarlet. “Sloane agreed to be my girlfriend, and I haven’t seen her in nearly twenty- four hours. I needed to give her a proper hello,” I say, smiling at Sloane. Her cheeks turn a lovely shade of pink. “I missed you,” I say softly.

She opens her mouth, obviously uncomfortable with whatever she’s thinking.

I lean in and put my lips against her ear. “Don’t say it unless you mean it,” I whisper.

I feel the heat on her cheeks as I pull back to look at her.

“I wasn’t sure you were going to come,” she says.

“I told you I would. I always keep my word, Sloane.”

“Right, so…” Scarlet begins again.

“Let them be, Scarlet. Hello, Alpha. Welcome.” I recognize him as the man who picked Sloane up from school last week.

“You must be Daniel.”

“I am.”

“Congratulations. Scarlet’s an amazing woman.”

“Yes, she is,” he says, grinning at her. She smiles at him, then turns back to me.

“How do you know I’m an amazing woman?” she asks.

“Scarlet!” Sloane says, but I just smile.

“Well, besides me paying attention at school, you’re also one of the very few people that Sloane thinks highly of. To me, that makes you pretty special.”

“Hmm. Well, you are fighting for Valedictorian. I guess it makes sense that you’re intelligent,” Scarlet says.

“Thank you.”

“And I assume you’re studying more than anatomy and physiology tonight,” Scarlet says, giving Sloane a look.

“Scarlet!” Sloane says again.

“I value Sloane for many things, Beta; her mind, her heart, her love of family. Her body is amazing, yes, but it’s only one of the things I like about her.”

“Can we please change the subject?” Sloane grumbles.

“I like how humble she is too,” I say.

“That, she is,” Scarlet agrees.

“Have you eaten dinner?” Sloane asks, forcing the subject change.

“No. I was hoping we could have dinner together, if it’s not too presumptuous.”

“You showed up at the beginning of dinner time. There’s nothing presumptuous about that,” Sloane says, rolling her eyes. “And you didn’t bring a single book or a tablet to study.”

“I thought we could share. I could read over your shoulder, or you could sit in my lap…”

“No!” she says, pointing her finger at me.

“Over your shoulder it is,” I grin, already planning to distract her by kissing her neck.

I keep Sloane tucked under my arm as we walk inside. I make a point of saying hello to Alpha Waylon and Luna Judith as is proper, then watch Sloane’s frown get deeper as Alpha Waylon’s pack members all make a point to say hello to me.

“Must be nice to be treated like royalty,” she grumbles.

“Some respect is harder to earn than others,” I say to her as we make our way through the buffet line.

“So, Scarlet, what’s your plan now that you’re mated?” I ask when we sit down, wanting to know if her plans of being Sloane’s Beta have changed now that she’s mated to Daniel.

She let’s me know they will be heading home tomorrow and not returning until Thursday after her last final.

“That reminds me, what time do you want me to come get you tomorrow?” I ask Sloane.

“Get me for what?” she asks, frowning. I watch her eat with the same energy she ate dinner at the cliff. I love that never tries to act like someone other than the woman she is.

“To take you home, of course. I brought you here from school, so I need to make sure I get you home properly.”

“Scarlet and Daniel are taking me,” she says.

“That’s totally out of the way for them,” I say. It’s not, but I want to spend alone time with Sloane again tomorrow.

“I wouldn’t say tot … Oh,” Scarlet says, looking at Daniel.

And Daniel just became my new favorite wingman.

“That would be great, Alpha. I know Scarlet is anxious to get home and I’m really excited to meet her parents. I think Alpha Sloane was planning to leave later in the day and this gives Scarlet and I a chance to leave a bit earlier so we can get settled before she has to get ready for finals week,” Daniel says.

“Perfect, then it’s all settled,” I say, grinning at Sloane. She frowns at me, then looks at Scarlet who shrugs.

“Have you always been like this?” she asks me.

“Charming? Witty? Spectacularly enjoyable company?” I ask.

I take her hand and pull it to my lips, holding her gaze. “I like spending time with my girlfriend. Is that a crime?”

I’m rewarded with another blush.

“So, what time am I picking you up tomorrow?” I ask again.

Sloane looks at Scarlet. “What time are you leaving?”

“Well, honestly, if we aren’t staying for you, we’ll probably leave after lunch. Daniel’s right, the pack will be thrilled and I’m sure mom is already planning some sort of dinner event for us,” she says.

“How about four? And since you seem to like having dinner with me, you can plan to have dinner with my family tomorrow night,” she says with fake sweetness. Little does she know that I have no problem having dinner with her family.

“I would love that. Thank you for the invitation.”

“So, Sloane, is your boyfriend going to be at your birthday party?” Scarlet asks, once again giving Sloane a look.

“Of course I am. We discussed it last night, but having dinner with your family tomorrow is a great opportunity for me to confirm the details of your birthday,” I say.

“Like what?” Sloane asks. Since she keeps frowning at me, I reach over and gently rub my thumb over the crinkles between her eyebrows.

“Like, what time I should arrive, if there is room for Bethany and I to stay the night …”

“Ohhh, Bethany is coming too? I really like her,” Scarlet says.

“Sloane says she reminds her of you,” I say, still pleased with that assessment of my sister.

“Yeah, I can see that. Bethany is pretty awesome,” Scarlet says, grinning at her mate.

“I think so too,” I say.

“Are your, uh, parents coming too?” Scarlet asks.

“I believe the invitation to Sloane’s party is specific to me and Bethany,” I say

When we’re done with dinner, Sloane takes me to an office so we can study. She tries to put space between us, like I knew she would, but I remind her that I need to read over her shoulder.

When she pulls the first book up on her tablet, I wrap my arm around her, setting my chin on her shoulder. Since we’re alone, I feel comfortable asking the question that’s been eating at me since Bethany and I talked last night.

“Have you considered that Kaelin will challenge you for this pack, Sloane?”
