Chapter 166

Sloane

When I returned home from Benedict’s pack, it was to find that Scarlet already had the pack settled. She’s such a fantastic Beta. I can tell the pack is still feeling a bit uncomfortable about having the two of us as their Alpha and Beta so I spend the evening with our pack, similarly to how I did with Benedict’s pack this afternoon. We still have a long way to go to make our packs unified separately, then together, but it will be worth it in the end.

I have yet to deal with Gabriel and Jack, but I’ll deal with them tomorrow, my first real day as Alpha of this pack

When I get to my bedroom, it smells enough like Benedict that I miss him terribly. My bed never felt empty before, but it does now.

I crawl into bed and text him that I’m going to sleep. I think about last night and how much I’ve started to crave my time with him. He makes me feel calm and, like him, I like talking about things with him. He sees things differently than I do. He gives me a different perspective, and I think that makes us a good team. We both communicate and we both listen to the other person.

I smile as I breathe in his scent of a fine wine and let it lull me into sleep.

‘ATTACK! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK”

The howls of alarm go up at the same time the pack link booms with the warning of our attack.

Warriors prepare for battle! Omegas, young mothers, elderly, and pups, get to the safe rooms!” I bellow in the mind link as I race down the hallway. This is just one more reason I need to move my room to the end of the hall.

My grandfather steps out of his room just as I race up to it

“Call Uncle Roman and get to a safe room!” I demand, before leaping over the banister and letting Aisling pull the shift on the way down. We nearly collide with Scarlet shifting into Davina on the way down.

‘Be careful!‘ I say to her, knowing my Beta can handle herself.

‘You too, she says as we race out the back door of the packhouse and straight into the oncoming battle.

Let’s show them what happens when they come for our pack, Aisling, I snarl as she begins tearing through wolves

I don’t have a mind link with my uncle’s warriors or with Alpha Austin’s, but I know when they enter the fight. They are much better fighters than my pack’s warriors.

For the first time in my life, I feel the tether of a pack member snap and I realize that, as their Alpha, I’ve just felt someone losing their life.

‘Aisling‘

‘Focus, Sloane. They will NOT take our pack from us, she snarls, ripping the throat out of a wolf in her anger and frustration as we feel another tether break. Our warriors are not prepared for this kind of battle. We need to end this battle and we need to end it quickly.

‘Alpha Benedict’s pack is answering the call for assistance, a warrior announces Because the battle is so spread out, I can’t tell where they are, but I have to assume they’re closer to our shared border, which concerns me. This attacking pack has gotten deeper into my territory than I thought.

“We still have people inside willing to betray us, Aisling says sadly.

I see a wolf leaping at one of my warriors. Aisling snaps her teeth on their flank, breaking the bone in their leg between her jaws before shaking her head violently and ripping the bottom part of the leg off.

We don’t stop to kill this wolf, I need to find the Alpha who is in charge of this battle.

“Kaelin, no!”

Aisling whips her head around at the sound of my grandfather’s voice. I watch in horror as my grandfather stands in front of a large wolf. He’s not larger than we are, but he’s large enough to be an Alpha.

Kaelin shifts and snarls at his father. “This pack should have been mine, you fucking bastard!”

“You never deserved to be my heir!” Waylon snarls back.

I watch as Kaelin extends his claws and swipes them across Waylon’s face and neck, sending him sprawling to the ground.

‘NO!‘ I scream.

Aisling races over to where Kaelin is standing over his father, ready to smash his foot into his head and end Waylon’s life.

“Fuck you, Dad,” he sneers.

Aisling slams into him, sending him flying. Then she turns and I pull the shift, racing over to my grandfather.

“Grandpa! Grandpa. Hold on. Just hold on,” I say, pressing my hand against his face and neck. I look around, but there’s no one to help me. Everyone is fighting.

“Well, aren’t you pretty,” I hear a moment before a hand is in my hair, yanking my head back. “You must be Sloane. Your mate is here for you.”

My mate? How does he know Benedict is here? Is this about luring Benedict here?

I swing my fist up, but he blocks it.

“Grab her,” he snarls. I turn just in time to see Kaelin limp back over. He grabs my arm.

“You fucking asshole. I’ll kill you for what you did to my grandfather!” I snarl at him.

“You fucking bitch! You don’t deserve this pack! It should have been mine!” he says, backhanding me.

‘Scarlet! I need help!‘ I yell in the mind link. I don’t trust that anyone else is strong enough to help me against an Alpha and Kaelin together.

“But now, it’s going to be mine.” I turn toward the voice in front of me and my stomach twists at the Beta who is obviously aroused, either by me or this battle, or maybe both. Either way, he’s disgusting.

He saunters up to me as if he as all the time in the world, as if there isn’t a battle going on around us.

“Too bad I already have a mate. I wouldn’t mind fucking your sweet pussy. I had no idea you were so fucking sexy,” the disgusting Alpha says in my ear as I fight to get away from him.

“I feel sorry for your fucking mate, stuck with that pencil dick,” I snarl, yanking away from Kaelin just long enough to land a punch on the Alpha’s cheek.

The Beta slams his fist into my stomach, then yanks my arm back over to Kaelin. “Hold her fucking arm. Are you so fucking useless that you can’t hold one fucking she–wolf while I mark her?”

While he’s snarling at Kaelin, the Alpha has yanked my head back even more, but I can see well enough that I send my leg straight between the Beta’s thighs, slamming my leg against his balls.

He doubles over then looks up and snarls at me.

“You’re going to have your hands full with this one,” the Alpha chuckles.

“Good, I like breaking them in,” he growls.

“Good luck with that,” I say as the Alpha yanks my head to the side. I begin thrashing as the Beta’s canines extend. He’s just started to lean in when I smell it. Him. A fine wine aged to perfection.

And then the Beta’s gone. I yank away from Kaelin again, smelling Scarlet and knowing she’ll grab him. I punch the Alpha in the nose, hearing the satisfying crunch as he goes down, then I shift and turn on Kaelin.

“Tear him apart,‘ I snarl at Scarlet.

‘With pleasure.’

Davina grabs his leg and Aisling grabs his shoulder. Then, we pull.

Kaelin begins screaming, punching out at Aisling, but she doesn’t stop.

While he punches at us, Davina begins yanking her head from side to side. I hear the satisfying pop as Kaelin’s leg dislocates at the hip and he screams in pain. The moment he stops punching Aisling, she begins shaking her head violently, dislocating his shoulder. But she doesn’t stop there. She rips his arm from his body.

Davina is still working on his leg, so Aisling stands on his chest, holding him still, as Kaelin lays there sobbing. When she rips his leg off, I watch Kaelin’s eyes fade as he goes into shock. I don’t care, I leave him there to die slowly.

I turn and that’s when I see the Alpha and Beta attacking Benedict. I don’t hesitate, I slam my body into the Alpha, grabbing him by the neck and ripping him off of Marrok.

Scarlet is right behind me, leaping onto his back, helping me pin him to the ground. Aisling snarls, smelling Benedict’s blood on his snout. She sinks her teeth into the back of his neck, snapping her teeth together until we hear his spine snap in

two.

His body goes limp and I push off him, looking at Benedict.

Benedict, who has collapsed onto the ground. Benedict, who has shifted back into his human form. Benedict, who is bleeding profusely from the wounds in his neck.

‘AISLING!‘ I scream, pulling the shift and racing over to him. I wrap my hands around his neck, trying to staunch the bleeding.

“SCARLET!”

“Oh fuck! Come on, BWFive! You don’t die today,” she says, looking around quickly. I realize that the Beta is dying a slow death, having been disemboweled by Benedict.

“I can’t lose him, Scarlet! I can’t lose him!” I say beginning to panic.

“Can you mark him? I’ve heard that can help when a mate is dying,” she says.

I pull my hands away from his neck. “Where! They ripped his neck off Scarlet!”

‘Push my venom into his body, Aisling says.

What? But we can’t mark him.

‘It’s not the mark that would save him, it’s the venom, Aisling says. I’m sure it’s strong in the marking spot, but we’ll save him any way we can.

I grab his arm and sink Aisling’s canines into his wrist. She pushes her venom forward, flooding his system with as much as she can. I close my eyes, focusing on giving Benedict and Marrok our strength, trusting Scarlet to keep us safe.

“The battle is turning.” Scarlet says from beside me. I hear her snarl, feel her body shift, but I don’t move, don’t pull away from Benedict. If I lose him…

“Alpha Sloane! Alpha Sloane, let me see him.”

I ignore the person, still flooding Benedict’s body with Aisling’s venom.

“Sloane, let the doctor work on Benedict. His bleeding has slowed. Let them take him to the pack hospital. Let them stitch him up and get him on monitors, sweetie,” Scarlet says.

I look up and see the pack doctor watching and waiting for me to release Benedict. I pull Aisling’s canines from his wrist.

“You better fucking save his life,” I say.

“Yes, Alpha.”

I watch as he picks Benedict up and quickly carries him to the pack hospital.

I look around, knowing we have several dead and a lot of wounded.

“My grandfather?” I ask, seeing that his body is no longer lying on the ground.

“In the pack hospital as well, Sloane. He’s alive.”

I nod, looking around.

“Daniel, stay here. You’re in charge of the pack. Anyone who attacked our pack who isn’t dead, dies. When my aunt and uncle arrive, and they will, you can tell them where we went. Contact Bethany. Let her know her brother is in critical condition.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Scarlet, you’re with me.”

“Where are we going, Sloane?” she asks.

“We’re going to this Alpha’s pack and anyone who had anything to do with attacking us will die for what happened here today,” I say, leaping and letting Aisling pull the shift before taking off, following the scent of the Alpha and his pack who dared to attack my pack and may have killed my mate.
