Chapter 1056
"Did that Porter woman really donate a kidney to your mother?" Remington asked, looking at Jerome.
When Remington first read Eartha's file and saw that she had donated a kidney to Elsa, he had found it highly unusual.
While the Porter family wasn't quite on the Madden family's level in Tranquil Meadows, they were still a prominent, wealthy household.
Mr. Porter had built his empire alongside Nelson, and Nelson had always taken good care of the Porters.
Eartha was a wealthy heiress in her own right. For a woman of her status to willingly donate an organ to someone she wasn't blood-related to was unheard of.
Either it was a case of unimaginably profound sisterhood, or Eartha was playing an exceptionally long, calculating game.
Looking at the aftermath—Elsa passing away prematurely, Eartha taking over Elsa's company, and seamlessly slipping into the roles of wife and mother to Elsa's family —it was clear Eartha's payout had been massive.
But Nelson was not a man who could be easily fooled.
Lizetta stared intensely at Jerome; this was a question she had been dying to ask as well.
"Yes, she absolutely donated a kidney to Elsa."
Jerome's answer was firm.
"Is it possible she faked it? Could she have found a matching kidney on the black market, bribed the surgeons, and just put on a show?"
Lizetta couldn't shake the theory.
She found it impossible to believe that a woman who would ultimately sleep with her best friend's husband would sacrifice an organ to save her.
"Highly unlikely. When Elsa's kidneys failed, it was sudden and aggressive. The Madden family utilized every resource and contact available, but we couldn't secure a match in time. The situation was critical. Out of desperation, Eartha got tested, and shockingly, she was a match.
The surgeons who performed the transplant were personally vetted and hired by Nelson; they were
completely trusted. Furthermoronet
when Elsa and Eartha were wheeled into the operating room, Nelson and the rest of us were stationed right outside the doors. Fakingpit under those conditions would be nearly impossible.
On top of that, Eartha undergoes strict annual physicals, and her medical records have never shown a single discrepancy. She legitimately only has one kidney left."
Remington didn't look particularly surprised. A faint, cold smirk tugged at his lips.
"If she really did it, then a woman ruthless enough to mutilate her own body would have zero hesitation destroying someone else's."
"Do you think the donation was just a calculated move? That she never actually cared about my mother at all?" Lizetta asked, echoing her own dark suspicions.
Her recent interactions with Eartha had left her thoroughly convinced the woman was entirely fake.
"If Eartha hadn't genuinely given up a kidney for Elsa, Nelson never would have trusted her so implicitly or treated Andrea like his own flesh and blood.
After Elsa died, Eartha stepped in and managed countless affairs for the Madden family. Nelson even trusted her to raise Elsa's child.
It was precisely because Eartha was co-parenting Andrea that she and Conrad spent so much time together, eventually leading to their affair.
By the time Nelson found out, Andrea recognized only Eartha as her mother, crying and screaming for Eartha to marry Conrad so they could be a real family.
Elsa had only been gone for two or three years at that point. Nelson was absolutely furious. He beat Conrad within an inch of his life.
He broke one of Conrad's legs, putting him in the hospital for ages, but even that couldn't force them apart. Between Mr. Porter begging for leniency and Andrea throwing tantrums...
Eventually, Nelson had no choice but to cave and let them marry. However, after that, Nelson steadily distanced himself from Eartha.
