Chapter 1067

Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption · Lizetta

Just then, Remington walked over and handed the glass of water to Cedric.

"T-Thank you, Boss."

Cedric took it, utterly overwhelmed by the gesture. Sure, when they were out on gruelling field inspections, Remington would occasionally toss him a bottle of water.

But this was entirely different. Being served water while seated while his boss waited on him? This was a once-in-a-lifetime luxury he was sure he would never experience again.

Cedric thought to himself, with the boss's ruthless personality, he must be completely whipped to follow her orders so obediently.

Wait, she wasn't even his wife anymore.

If they actually got remarried, if Lizetta told him to walk off a cliff, he would probably ask if she wanted him to do a flip on the way down.

"However what?"

Unable to get the rest of the sentence out of Cedric, Lizetta pressed him to continue.

Caught up in his internal monologue about his boss, Cedric's brain completely

stalled. "However... However..."

Where was he going with this?

Lizetta smiled softly. "Don't be nervous."

She shot a look at Remington. "See? You're too intimidating normally. You act like a grumpy old man and terrify everyone into silence."

Remington felt a flash of helpless resignation but didn't utter a single word of defense. Instead, he flashed Cedric a razor-thin smile.

"Drink your water, and take your time."

The moment Cedric saw that chilling, entirely fake smile, a jolt of pure survival instinct shot up his spine. Activating full professional mode, he spat the words out.

"However, the police nearly shattered Andrea's defenses until an Officer Wade suddenly intervened and ruined the interrogation. This Wade guy is highly suspicious. Officer Tanner already has people trailing him to see if we can follow the money and yank the big fish out of the shadows."

Remington gave a curt nod, showing absolutely zero surprise or frustration at Andrea walking free.

Cedric glanced at Lizetta, then back at his boss.

He wasn't sure if he was authorized to share the next piece of news with her.

Remington shot him a look. "Spit it out."

Cedric immediately continued, "On her way back to Amber Hill Estate, Andrea's car was T-boned by a truck that supposedly lost control. Her car smashed through the bridge barrier and plunged straight into Migor Lake. Videos of the crash are already going viral online"

Lizetta froze, instinctively grabbing Remington's hand.

"Did you..."

She wanted to ask if he had ordered the hit.

But clearly, that was a stupid question.

Another car plunging into a lake, and specifically Mirror Lake? There was no such thing as coincidences like that.

Having delivered the news, Cedric stood up. "That's everything. Please rest well, Ma'am. I'll take my leave now."

He didn't even bother asking

anymore, he went straight to

true authority in the room.

Lizetta nodded. "Thank you for your hard work."

Cedric waved it off frantically, turned on his heel, and practically sprinted out the

door.

Once the door clicked shut, Lizetta looked at Remington.

"Is this going to cause trouble for you?"

It was so glaringly obvious—a blatant, retaliatory strike. Who wouldn't know Remington was behind it?

Her eyes, filled with genuine worry for him, made Remington feel incredibly validated.

He pulled her into his arms. "Hard

say. If they drag me in for

a kiss to calm my nerves first?"

Without an audience, he instantly reverted to his shamelessly affectionate self, begging for kisses and cuddles.

Seeing him joking around, Lizetta realized her anxiety was entirely wasted on him. She rolled her eyes.

"You better get arrested. I have zero interest in a lawless boyfriend."

Remington feigned a wounded expression, playfully tapping the bridge of her nose.

"Heartless."

As they bantered, a sudden commotion erupted from the hallway outside.
