Chapter 1090

Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption · Lizetta

If Fiona wanted someone to blame, she could only blame her own grandson.

They were divorced, yet he still felt the need to play the hero for his ex-wife. Thankfully, everything was finally back on track.

"Cough... Cough, cough!"

Lost in her thoughts, Eartha was suddenly seized by an uncontrollable fit of coughing.

It tore through her chest so violently that her driver pulled over and looked back in concern.

"Ma'am, are you alright? You really need to take better care of yourself. You've been severely ill several times this year."

Eartha fought down the tickle in her throat and the suffocating weakness washing over her before taking a shaky breath.

"Soon..."

Soon, she wouldn't have to endure this failing, rotting body. She wouldn't have to live in constant fear anymore.

Back at the hospital.

After a battery of tests, Fiona was wheeled into the room right next to Lizetta's.

The entire floor had already been locked down by Remington's men, making it an impenetrable fortress.

The moment Fiona arrived, Lizetta practically sprinted over.

"Fiona! How are you feeling? Does it hurt? Are you dizzy?"

She rushed to the bedside and grabbed her hand, firing off anxious questions. Before Fiona could even answer, guilt brought tears to Lizetta's eyes.

Fiona squeezed her hand and blinked at Tina, gesturing for her to remove the oxygen mask.

Tina leaned in, but Lizetta blocked her. "No, Fiona. Whatever you want to say, it can wait until you're fully recovered."

Seeing the elderly woman in such a fragile state tore her heart to pieces.

But Fiona looked back at Tina with absolute stubbornness.

"Young Madam," Tina coaxed gently. "Madam has something crucial to say. You know how she is. If she doesn't get this off her chest she won't be able to rest."

Lizetta finally nodded and carefully removed the mask herself.

She leaned in close, hovering near Fiona's ear.

"I'm listening, Fiona. Whatever you need to say, I'm right here."

Instead of speaking, Fiona turned her head to look at Remington, who was standing

a few feet away, and shakily raised a hand toward him.

Remington watched the performance with a twitching eyelid, feeling utterly

speechless, but he stepped forward and offered his hand.

Inwardly, Fiona cursed her idiotic grandson. Here she was, acting her heart out to

help him win his wife back, and he was being so uncooperative!

He really thought he had it all figured out!

Absolutely zero situational awareness.

Still, she had to play her part. She placed Lizetta's hand over Remington's, gripping them tightly as she spoke in a faint, breathy whisper.

"You're finally calling me 'Fiona' again like family... That's so wonderful..."

"Don't say that. In my heart, you t

Lizetta spoke in a soft, soothing tone to comfort her.

A weak but immensely gratified smile blossomed on Fiona's pale face. She used

what little strength she had to force their hands together, her voice trembling.

"Lizetta, Remington... he truly knows he was wrong now. My biggest fear is... is not seeing you two reconcile Not seeing you walk down the aisle again if I pass away without seeing that it will be my deepest, most torturous regret. Even in death, wouldn't be able to..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she broke into a fit of rapid, shallow panting.
