Chapter 1095

Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption · Lizetta

The maid's panicked shriek nearly made Eartha jump out of her skin.

Startled as she drank, she inhaled sharply, sending a massive pill lodging itself painfully in the back of her throat.

The taste was horribly bitter and choking.

She descended into a violent coughing fit, sending the glass of water in her hand splashing all over the bedsheets and her clothes, leaving her a drenched, pathetic mess.

"Careful!"

Conrad leaped to his feet, dropping to his knees by the edge of the bed to firmly rub her back. He shot a furious glare at the maid.

"What could possibly be so urgent that you have to come screaming in here like a lunatic?! Yes, we live in Zion City, but there are still laws here! Does Remington Dashiell really think he can just waltz in and start murdering people in broad daylight?! Get out of my sight. I'll be right down..."

Fuming with righteous anger, Conrad intended to march downstairs and handle the situation himself.

But before he could even finish his sentence, a voice as cold as ice echoed from the hallway outside their bedroom.

"I'm afraid the only person trying to get away with murder in this city is your sickly wife."

As the words dropped, Remington's towering, imposing figure appeared in the doorway.

Without a word, the two bodyguards flanking him stepped forward, grabbed the trembling maid who was blocking the path, and unceremoniously dragged her out.

Her legs gave out entirely in terror, and she didn't dare make a single sound as she was hauled away.

Remington strode directly into the bedroom, with Cedric following closely behind. There was zero pretense of politeness.

Conrad's face turned purple with rage. Eartha was dressed in nothing but a thin silk nightgown, soaked through from the spilled water, making her look both vulnerable and humiliatingly exposed.

Remington's blatant intrusion was a profound display of disrespect.

"Remington Dashiell! This is the West family home, and this is our private bedroom! What exactly do you think you're doing?! Have you lost all sense of basic decency?!"

Conrad took a menacing step forward, his voice thundering with absolute fury.

Having held positions of power for years and viewing himself as an elder to Remington, he certainly had an intimidating presence.

But Remington wasn't buying an ounce of it.

His expression only grew sharper, his gaze cutting through Conrad like a razor.

"You should direct that question at your dear wife. Ask her if she had any sense of 'basic decency' when she waltzed into the Dashiell estate and deliberately pushed my grandmother to the brink of heart attack. Ask her what exactly she was trying to achieve."

Conrad had been out handling the crisis with Andrea Porter earlier. When he left, Eartha had been resting in bed, and when he returned, she was already back home.

He genuinely had no idea she had left the house. His brow furrowed in severe confusion.

"What do you mean, pushed your grandmother? How is that even possible?"

He turned to look at Eartha. She had already grabbed a thin cashmere throw blanket, wrapping it tightly around her shoulders as she slid out of bed. Her face was ghostly pale as she stammered out an explanation.

"Mr. Dashiell, you've misunderstood. I went to the Dashiell estate purely out of desperation. The daughter l raised and loved with all my heart has gone missing. As a mothe was out of my mind with wor Since everyone always says Fiona s the most compassionate? merciful woman in the city, I went to beg for her help. I had absolutely no idea she didn't know about Liz's accident.

I swear, it wasn't intentional. I... I'm so sorry."

Looking at Remington with an expression of deep, mournful distress, she continued.

"How is the elder Mrs. Dashiell doing

now? I fully intended to follow her to the hospital; but... *cough cough*.

As you can see, I nearly collapsed myself I had to rush home to take, my medication just to keep o breathing."

Hearing her explanation, Conrad felt he understood the full picture.

He immediately threw a protective arm around his frail wife, allowing her to lean

heavily against his side as he turned back to Remington.

"My wife simply acted without thinking. She was just terrified for her child. If your grandmother is awake, my wife and I will go to the hospital immediately to formally apologize and pay our respects."
