“There’ll be other chances,” Janice replied, gently patting Maggie’s head. Suddenly, she felt a sharp gaze on her back, making her turn to see who it was. Liliana stood off to the side, her gaze fixed on Janice with an intensity that didn’t go unnoticed.
From the fire in her eyes, Janice could sense a clear undercurrent of hostility. It left her confused. She couldn’t think of a single reason why Liliana would be so openly antagonistic towards her—she hadn’t done anything to offend her.
Janice had no interest in getting involved with Liliana, but the woman walked up to her anyway.
