A sudden thought struck her. Could this be a test from Aiden? She speculated that Janice had captured Aiden’s attention because she appeared down-to-earth and authentic.

“Fine, I’ll eat it.” Alissa took a deep breath and accepted the fried chicken nuggets from Aiden.
Merely looking at them unsettled her stomach, but she was determined to push through to impress him. With closed eyes, she took a bite, focusing all her effort on suppressing the urge to gag, the flavor utterly irrelevant.
“Is it good?” Aiden’s eyebrow arched, a hint of mockery in his tone.
“Delicious.” Alissa forced her eyes open and offered Aiden a sweet smile. “It tastes even better because you bought it.”
Aiden felt an involuntary chill. Had Janice said that, it might have been charming, but from Alissa, it felt disingenuous.
“Aiden, you should try some too,” Alissa suggested, holding out a piece toward him. Her heart fluttered with hope. Was he finally letting his guard down, showing genuine affection? Sharing food in such a manner was typically reserved for close couples.
But just as the chicken nugget was about to reach his mouth, Aiden turned away. “Sorry, I don’t eat unhealthy junk food.”
“What?” Alissa’s pupils narrowed, her hand shaking as she held the nugget. “What do you mean?”
Aiden shrugged. “Unhealthy junk food contributes to weight gain. Janice appreciates my fitness, so I need to stay in shape to keep her happy.”

Aiden’s smirk faded into a grimace. “Yes, I am doing this deliberately. Alissa, did you really believe I had genuine interest in you? I’m here to make a point on behalf of Janice. No matter how influential the Welch family might be, if you threaten Janice, I will not stand by idly.”
Alissa’s eyes widened as she confronted Aiden’s icy stare, feeling as if a cold wind had swept over her. This man harbored no affection for her, only disdain.
“Aiden, what is it about Janice that makes her worth your complete loyalty? Don’t you realize, compared to me, she’s insignificant? With the Welch family’s resources, the Green family could ascend to the top in everything, even reaching the upper echelons nationally. But if you choose her, the Welch family will ensure that the Green family falls from grace.”
Aiden chuckled, his hands tucked into his pockets, his face radiating arrogance and disdain. “Alissa, do you honestly think you’re that important? If the Welch family wants to bring down the Green family, go ahead. Give it your best shot.”
“Aiden, you ungrateful wretch! It’s a privilege that I even considered giving you 100k! You should be groveling at my feet, obeying my every whim!” Alissa’s eyes blazed with fury, a fire so intense it seemed like she might tear Aiden apart right there on the spot.
