Chapter 788
Chapter 788:
As the door opened, a woman stepped inside.
“Aiden!” It was Nina, walking in with a bright, warm smile. “You’re back and you didn’t even tell us. Don’t you remember you have a mother?”
Aiden was taken aback to see Nina in his office. A reluctant smile appeared on his face. “Mom, there’s been a mountain of work waiting for me. If I don’t handle it right away, the company will descend into chaos.”
“Alright, alright, I get it,” Nina said, rolling her eyes playfully as she took a seat on the nearby sofa.
She was dressed in an elegant, flowing white dress today, exuding grace.
“I just stopped by to make sure you’ve been taking care of yourself.” Nina then narrowed her eyes and examined Aiden closely. “Wait, have you lost weight? Haven’t you been eating properly?”
Aiden hesitated for a moment, his mind flashing back to the injury he had sustained from a gunshot. A flicker of guilt passed through him. He had to keep that incident from Nina; knowing it would only make her worry.
“I was just trying to follow your advice.”
“Huh?” Nina looked puzzled, staring at Aiden. “What advice?”
Aiden stood up and moved to sit next to Nina, then he adopted a troubled expression. “You once advised me to win Janice back. So, while I was away, I made sure she ate well by giving her all the good food.”
“Really?” Nina’s face lit up. “If that’s true, then I’d say you’re not doing enough. You should lose a few more pounds to ensure Janice gets all the good food.”
Aiden was at a loss for words. What a mother he had! It seemed her future daughter-in-law was more important to her than her own son.
“Why haven’t you brought Janice back to dine with me?” Nina frowned, her tone becoming stern. “I miss her.”
“Don’t worry. We’ve planned to visit you tomorrow,” Aiden assured her.

Nina’s demeanor instantly brightened upon hearing this. A beaming smile spread across her face. “That’s my good son! Well done. Now, I’ll head home and prepare some health supplements to properly nourish Janice.”
“Mom, your son could use some nourishment too,” Aiden said with resignation, looking at Nina.
But Nina just waved him off. “Nonsense! You’re a man. You’re strong and robust. Losing a bit of weight won’t hurt you. What’s there to nourish?”
Aiden found himself speechless once more.
Despite her playful jabs, Nina’s deep care for her son was evident. “Aiden, you seemed troubled earlier. Is there something wrong with the company?”
“Nothing serious,” Aiden said dismissively. However, catching Nina’s intense stare, he decided to tell the truth. “There’s actually been a minor setback with the western suburb project.”
“The western suburb project?” Nina frowned in confusion. “Others may find that project important, but to us, it’s merely a minor detail. What is there to worry about?”
“Edwards Group is the contractor handling that.”
As soon as Nina heard the mention of “Edwards Group,” her expression changed. “That Edwards Group?” Aiden confirmed with a nod.
“This is serious, then.” Nina’s tone grew harsh, her annoyance apparent. “They’ve been bankrupt and restructured. What right do they have to take on such a project?”
