Stretcher 4
At the press conference. Dad was just about to announce he’d be suing every media outlet that dared slander Jade and Julian.
But then the massive LED screen behind them suddenly cut to black.
Confused murmurs swept through the crowd.
A few seconds later, the screen blinked back on.
A video started playing.
The footage was grainy and dim, clearly shot on someone’s phone, but you could make everything out. A hospital room. Late at night.
Jade was propped up in bed. Julian sat on the edge beside her, looking annoyed as hell.
“God, I’m so DONE with this charade. Those vultures won’t leave us alone. How much longer do we have to keep pretending?”
Jade smirked. “Just a little longer, babe. Once they officially declare Vivian dead, everyone will back off. And then?”
Her voice turned sickeningly sweet. “Everything she had becomes OURS.”
“Your old man’s really gonna go through with it?”
“Oh, please.” Jade waved a dismissive hand. “He’s been itching to get rid of his ‘difficult‘ daughter for years. Trust me–he wants her gone even MORE
than we do.”
Julian’s irritation melted into something softer. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it.
“You’re a genius, you know that? Once we liquidate everything, we’re out. The Maldives. Monaco. Anywhere but here dealing with this bullshit.”
Jade leaned into him with a satisfied sigh.
“And finally, I’ll be Mrs. Bradford for real.”
The screen went black.
Dead silence blanketed the room.
Every reporter sat frozen, eyes locked on the screen. Then, slowly, almost in unison, they turned toward the stage–where all three figures had gone deathly pale.

Chaos erupted.
“HOLY SHIT! DID WE JUST-”
“Oh my GOD, it’s ALL TRUE!”
“That’s not an affair–that’s CONSPIRACY TO MURDER!”
Dad lurched to his feet, stabbing a finger at the screen, voice cracking with panic.
“It’s FAKE! That video’s been doctored! Someone shut it down! SHUT IT DOWN RIGHT NOW!”
Too late.
Because right as the room descended into absolute pandemonium-
The double doors at the back of the hall swung open with a echoing BANG.
A cool, steady voice sliced through the noise.
“Dad.”
The room went silent.
“What’s got everyone so worked up?”
