Liliana clutched her purse tightly, cursing herself for acting too hastily. She

realized that if she had waited a couple of days to handle this, she could have planned better and avoided the predicament she found herself in. But what's done is done, and there was no point in complaining now.

"I'll wire the remaining amount," she said, "just make sure your people keep their mouths shut."

"I understand," came the reply.

Liliana stepped out of the car, glanced around to ensure no one was watching, and hurried off with her purse in hand.

Meanwhile, Amara arrived at the Everly residence to find Mr. Kevin Everly sitting on the wooden sofa, looking rather grim. She approached him and said, "Grandpa, don't worry about Hogan. He'll pull through."

Mr. Kevin Everly shook his head. "Ama, there's no need to comfort me. Whether he'll wake up or not is still uncertain, and I understand that."

Having been in the business world for years, Mr. Kevin Everly had faced many storms, and empty words of comfort wouldn't sway him. He'd been preparing himself to accept whatever may come.

Amara didn't particularly like Hogan, but seeing how worried Mr. Kevin Everly was, she hoped for his recovery.

"Have you eaten, Grandpa? Let me fix you something," she offered.

Lisa had mentioned over the phone that Mr. Kevin Everly had been too worried to eat. Despite his frequent disapproval of Hogan, preferring Finnian instead, blood ties ran deep, and he cared for Hogan nonetheless.

Mr. Kevin Everly shook his head again. "I'm not hungry, Ama. Skipping a meal or two won't hurt me."

"How about some soup? I'll make you some," Amara insisted and headed to the kitchen. She prepared a bowl of bone broth, bringing it to him and not leaving until she saw him drink it.

Amara was concerned about him being alone with his thoughts, especially since most of the Everly family were at the hospital. She decided to stay the night.

Around eleven, Finnian returned home, handing his coat to the waiting housekeeper and casually asking, "Is Grandpa asleep?"

"He's already turned in," Lisa replied, approaching him. "How's Mr. Hogan Everly?"

"He's got a blood clot in his brain. They're doing everything they can," Finnian said with a furrowed brow. "Two foreign specialists are coming tomorrow. We'll see if they can help “ s

Though he often disapproved of Hogan's ways, Finnian cared for his younger brother.

Lisa nodded, clasping her hands in a brief prayer for Hogan, and then cursed the drunk driver who'd

caused the accident something

came to her mind and she add

"Ms. Sullivan came by today to keep the old man company. It got late, so she's staying over." s

"Amara's here?" Finnian paused mid-step.

Noticing Finnian's interest, Lisa chuckled, covering her mouth with her hand, and pointed upstairs. "Ms. Sullivan should be asleep by now. She's in her old room."

Amara had always had a room at

the Everly residence. Even after her divorce from Finnian, Mr. Kevin Everly treated her like a granddaughter, keeping the room ready for her with regular cleaning. s

Finnian nodded, freshened up in his room, and then quietly walked to Amara's

door. He stood there for a moment, hesitating, before gently knocking.

There was no response. Had Amara already fallen asleep?
