Chapter 788
"Actually, I was thinking of taking a little break. Maybe I won't take on a new project for now?" Yvonne said hesitantly.
Sandra paused, surprised by Yvonne's sudden reluctance. However, she wasn't one to pry. If Yvonne didn't want to film, she must have her reasons.
"If you don't want to act, we can do some variety shows. I can also book you some commercial events and suitable endorsements," Sandra suggested. Then she remembered a reality show she had on hand that would be perfect for Yvonne.
"There's an outdoor adventure reality show next month. They've invited all the hottest stars. I've read the outline, and it looks pretty good. It would suit you well."
"An adventure show... I think I'll pass on that too," Yvonne said.
Sandra stared at her, her eyes filled with questions.
Yvonne set down her teacup and forced herself to say, “Sandra, what if I accidentally get..."
"Don't tell me you're pregnant!" Sandra interrupted, her voice rising before Yvonne could finish.
“Not yet. It's just... we haven't been using any protection lately," Yvonne's voice grew quieter, as if she'd been caught doing something wrong.
Without contraception, she could get pregnant at any time. It would be awkward to find out she was pregnant halfway through filming a movie. And an outdoor
adventure show was definitely out of the question-it would be far too dangerous for a pregnant woman.
Sandra listened, a headache already forming.
Yvonne had always been such a rational girl. How had she let love cloud her judgment so completely?
Getting married at the peak of her career was one thing, but getting pregnant and having a baby? Wasn't that career suicide?
Then again, a woman's future wasn't just about her career; it was also about who she married.
Marrying the heir to the Thompson family, giving birth to an heir, and securing her position as the family's matriarch.
Between those two paths, Sandra couldn't say which was better, nor did she have the right to make that decision for Yvonne.
"Just be sure you've thought it through," Sandra said with a sigh.
However, as it turned out, getting pregnant wasn't something that happened on command. Two days later, Yvonne's period arrived right on schedule.
Her new body was still quite frail, and she suffered from terrible cramps.
Yvonne lay listlessly in bed, looking drained. Helen had made her some ginger tea, but it didn't seem to help much.
When Bennett returned from the base that evening, Yvonne was still in bed, her face pale.
He frowned instinctively, his eyes filled with concern. He walked over and lifted her from the bed into his arms. Heleft get some clothes for Yvonne m taking her to the hospital."
"It's just cramps. Going to the hospital won't help," Yvonne said, her face ashen as she snuggled into his chest before lying back down curled into a ball.
Helen retrieved the first-aid kit, found some painkillers, and poured a glass of warm water.
“Take these first. Get some sleep. You just have to get through the next couple of days."
Yvonne obediently took the pills and fell back onto the bed.
"If a girl isn't properly cared for when she's young, getting cold or sick, she can end up with bad cramps for life. The hospital can't do much Maybe it'll get better after she has a child,”
Helen muttered as she watched Yvonne take the medicine, then left the room.
Yvonne's current body had been mistreated by her adoptive parents since childhood. It was a miracle she had even survived, let alone been well cared for.
Bennett didn't insist on taking Yvonne to the hospital. Instead, he lay beside her, his hand resting on her lower abdomen, gently massaging the area.
