Chapter 282 The Arrest
:
But no matter how she struggled, things unfolded exactly the way Aurora feared.
The officers stepped forward, their voices steady.
“Ms. Aurora, you need to come with us to assist in the investigation.”

They gave no explanation. They didn’t need to. Everyone watching–inside the estate and through the livestream–jumped to the same conclusion: murder.
Aurora thought so too. Her knees nearly buckled.
She instinctively turned toward the old madam’s villa, hoping for some sign of intervention. But the doors stayed shut. Not a ripple of movement came from inside, as if the chaos here had nothing to do with those within.
So it was true–what the old madam had told her. Once a move was made, there would be no taking it back. No dragging others into the fallout.
But Monroe had played a part. Why would the old madam protect a servant, while letting her, Aurora, be dragged away?
No. She couldn’t accept it.
“I won’t go with you!”
She stumbled backward, trying to flee.
The officers seized her quickly.
“This isn’t my fault—I only…”
Before she could finish, the villa’s doors creaked open.
Monroe stood there. He raised his hand slightly, a silent signal.
Aurora’s words died in her throat.
Scarlett studied her with quiet interest.
“What did you hear? Name the one behind you, and maybe your sentence won’t be as heavy.”
Aurora’s mind spun wildly. She didn’t know what to say–or what not to say. Panic pushed her to the edge.

Chapter 282 The Arrest
:
Then her eyes landed on the nearest person: Grace.
“It was Grace!” Aurora cried, tears spilling down her face. “If she hadn’t urged me, I never would’ve thought of it. Scarlett, I’m innocent–I only gave away your travel route!”

Her voice cracked, hoarse and raw, as if she had finally released everything she’d been bottling
The livestream went berserk.
“Holy crap, it really was the two of them!”
“These rich people play with lives like toys.”
“Money is their get–out–of–jail–free card.”
“This is what real corruption looks like.”
“I’m honestly shaking.”
“Not just contempt for the poor–they don’t even value each other’s lives.”
“Thank god for the law. Otherwise, this would’ve ended differently.”
And then the screen went black. The livestream cut out.
The officers had ordered the feed shut down. Grace’s phone was confiscated, and she, Aurora, and their associates were all taken away.
The public didn’t see the end, but discussion only grew hotter.
Sophia’s eyes reddened as she grasped Scarlett’s arm.
“Let me look at you first.”
With outsiders present, she had held her composure. But now, with the threat removed, her restraint collapsed.
She circled her daughter, checking every inch, only relaxing when she saw not a scratch.
“You nearly scared me to death,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
Scarlett had already sent word earlier that she was safe, but Sophia hadn’t dared to believe it. She’d braced for a hospital’s call at any moment. Now, finally, she could breathe.
Scarlett caught her mother’s shifting expressions, her own chest warming sweetly.

Chapter 282 The Arrest
“Don’t worry, Mom. I was never in the car.”
Her
gaze slid to Jasper. Sophia’s followed.
He stood calmly, his tone unusually gentle.
“Don’t worry. Real cars, fake passengers.”
Taylor clapped his hands once, hard.
:
“Good. The people are safe, but those cars were destroyed. Someone will pay for that.”

He wasn’t about to let Aurora off lightly. She’d dared to plot murder—if she didn’t face prison, then she would face ruin. She would be broken and cast out of the Lane family.
His jaw tightened. A white–eyed wolf, fed and sheltered, had bared its fangs at them.
Taylor’s hand landed firmly on Jasper’s shoulder.
“Thanks.”
In his mind, Jasper had stepped in for his sake.
Jasper turned his head, meeting his eyes with a level look.
“No need.”
Sea
He paused, then added, “It was only right.”
Taylor frowned slightly. No need? Only right? The phrasing felt… off.
But before he could dwell on it, Sophia moved closer.
“Jasper, this time our Lane family owes you a great debt. Whatever you need in the future—”
“Ma’am,” Jasper interrupted smoothly, his voice calm but firm.
“This wasn’t my help. Ms. Joyner handled it herself. And besides–she’s part of my lab. I won’t stand by while one of my people is threatened.”
