Chapter 297 To Let Go
“Scarlett has proven herself with her results. Those hiding in the shadows, slinging mud, only expose their own pettiness and shame!”
The inspector raised a file to the microphone. “After thorough review, Scarlett’s competition procedures were fully compliant, her results genuine and valid. Her thesis meets all academic standards. No falsification was found. We will pursue accountability for those behind these malicious reports.”
The moment the truth came out, silence filled the hall – and then it broke into thunderous applause.
Scarlett looked out at the students, now meeting her with clear and sincere eyes. At last, the weight on her shoulders eased.
She bowed, her voice carrying a note of relief, yet firm as ever. “Thank you for believing me. I’ve always held that in medicine, only evidence matters. Suspicion is not proof. If you want to challenge someone’s work, bring real evidence. That is respect for science – and for yourself”

She hadn’t wept over the slander. She wasn’t triumphant over her vindication. She simply stood, calm and upright, like a poplar tree growing against the storm – resilient, unyielding.
Millie opened her mouth, but before she could speak, a firm hand pressed her shoulder down.
She spun to snap at the intruder – only to see an officer’s badge. Plainclothes.
Her face drained to chalk, terror flooding her eyes.
“I-”
The officer silenced her with a gesture. They didn’t want panic in front of the students. If she screamed, it would be trouble,
Millie, never having faced anything like this, nearly collapsed, her body limp as rope. Two officers took her arms and led her out.
No one else noticed. They were still caught up in Scarlett’s words. Those who did glance back assumed Millie had slunk away in shame.
Outside the research building, Scarlett checked her phone.
Still no reply from Colt.

After Rebecca’s release, the Lane family had looked into him. Colt had only been reprimanded by his superiors, no real punishment. That was why she had been at case handling matters in Jandale before returning.
But now, with silence stretching on, worry gnawed at her.
Colt’s line of work was delicate. She couldn’t risk prying too openly, or it might endanger his
cases.
Still, she couldn’t ignore it.
After much thought, she decided to ask Jack to investigate quietly. With the Robert family’s network now in his hands, it would be easier, safer.
“Scarlett.”
The familiar voice made her fingers tremble.
She turned slowly.
Calvin stood there, looking haggard.
In so short a time, his hair had gone silver. Deep lines carved his face, as though all the years he once carried lightly had come back to claim him in one blow.
Scarlett’s eyes caught on his wrinkled suit. She remembered how he used to keep spare jackets in the lab, how she and her peers had once taken turns pressing them for him. It had been part of their routine.
He noticed her glance and looked down at himself, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
“Seeing me like this… does it make you happy? You were always brilliant, but I never valued you. I thought Rebecca outshone you. And now? You’re graduating with honors. She’s facing questions of misconduct, maybe even expulsion.”
Scarlett lowered her gaze.
Once, she might have felt that way. She was human, not a saint. Watching someone who belittled her fall of course it would have felt satisfying.
–
But hearing it now, she only felt… nothing.
She was moving forward. She had no time to linger on fading wreckage.
“You don’t need to say these things to me. Maybe once I would’ve taken comfort in them. But now, your situation doesn’t touch me. It stirs nothing in me.”

She paused, then lifted her eyes to meet his.
“Professor Miller.”
For a moment, she studied the man who had once been bold, admired, untouchable.

“I am still grateful you once accepted me into your lab. But too much has happened. Too much blame, too much hurt. None of it can be untangled anymore. Let it end here.”
