Jasper caught the flustered look on her face and let out a faint smile. He didn’t press her any further. “We’re here.”
Scarlett blinked, realizing they were already parked in front of her building. She scrambled to unfasten her seatbelt, as if making an escape. “I—I’ll head up. Thanks for driving me home.”
“Wait. Are you free this weekend?” Jasper asked. “I want to take
“Ah?” Scarlett froze for a second. “Y–yes, I’m free…”
“Good. I’ll pick you up then.”
you somewhere.”
“Mm.” She nodded quickly, slipped out of the car, and rushed upstairs.
Once inside, she shut the door and leaned against it, her heart still pounding.
His words, his eyes–they replayed in her mind endlessly.
She pressed her palms to her burning cheeks, the corners of her lips curling despite herself.
This man was like a stone dropped into the calm water of her life, sending ripples outward. And she… didn’t resist those ripples at all. She might even be looking forward to them swelling into
waves.
That night, sleep didn’t come easily.
In her dreams, she saw Jasper’s robots, Jasper helping her friends, Jasper smiling at her.
She startled awake.
Just a dream.
But-
Her heartbeat still thudded irregularly.
She rubbed her face hard. Scarlett, get a grip!
Her graduation ceremony was coming up. Shouldn’t she be thinking about what dress to wear?
Oh, right.
Sophia had sent her dozens.

Her indecision struck again.
Hopeless.

She tossed and turned, unable to sleep. And she still didn’t know why Jasper wanted to take her somewhere. Was it someplace special?
The next day, she showed up to meet her friend Sharon with dark circles under her eyes.
When Sharon heard what happened, she frowned. “So what, you were up all night gaming?”
Scarlett was long past caring about games.
She had already honed herself to an unbeatable level. Back when she was living with the Joyner family and money was tight, she had even taken game jobs to earn cash. Her skills had been so sharp that business was steady.
Which meant…
Late nights. Entire nights without sleep. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ FindN0vel.net
That was when Sharon had been the one buying her meals, making sure she didn’t work herself to death.
“Really, no!” Scarlett raised three fingers. “I swear! I promised you before, no more staying up all night.”
Sharon narrowed her eyes. “Then why? Don’t tell me you’ve got a boyfriend now and spent the night whispering on the phone?”
Scarlett: “…”
She sighed helplessly. “Wasn’t Connor enough suffering for me?”
Sharon patted her shoulder. “You can’t let one rotten seed make you give up the whole forest. You should date more, gain some experience. Marriage… that comes when the right one shows up.”
Scarlett muttered, “You’re basically teaching me how to be a player.”
“This is life’s truth,” Sharon said with mock solemnity.
Scarlett lowered her eyes, actually pondering the thought.
After a while, she asked quietly, “Is love really that good? Is marriage good too?”

Sharon had both loved and married, so she had the clearest say.
She chuckled. “At the very least, it helps regulate your hormones.”
Scarlett: “…”
Forget it.
Still, Sharon had a point. Life needed more experiences. She couldn’t be traumatized by everything forever.

The weekend arrived.
Jasper came right on time. This time, he wasn’t driving the steady black sedan, but a sleek sports car that exuded boldness.
“Wow, this car is amazing.” Scarlett slid into the passenger seat, wide–eyed.
Jasper handed her a helmet. “Put this on.”
“A helmet? Where are we going?” she asked curiously.
“You’ll see when we get
there.”
The car roared out of the city toward the countryside.
The wind whipped through the open windows, carrying the scent of grass and soil. Scarlett watched the scenery fly past, her heart unburdened, her mood unusually light.
After about an hour, the car rolled to a stop at a private racetrack.
“This is…” Scarlett stared at the winding track and the high–end racecars parked nearby.
“An experience,” Jasper said, stepping out and opening her door. His eyes carried a challenge. “Do you dare?”
The spark in his gaze instantly burned away her hesitation. “Why wouldn’t I?”
Jasper fastened her helmet himself and led her to a red racecar.
Scarlett’s pulse quickened again, her cheeks warming.
He
gave her a quick rundown of the controls, then started the engine.
