Although Briony Kensington had only met them once, she could tell that Maynard's parents were kind and reasonable people.

It reminded her of her own grandfather.

She nodded. "Alright."

Maynard's eyes lit up. "You agreed! No backing out now."

"Lori has no other family in this world. I should be the one thanking you for loving her so much."

"No thanks necessary," Maynard said, raising an eyebrow at Briony. "I'd much rather you offer yourself up instead."

Briony had become immune to his habit of spouting nonsense at every opportunity.

She just smiled and changed the subject. "I'm heading out of the country the day after tomorrow. If you want to take Lori over to your parents' place, make sure Carol goes with you."

"Got it." Maynard paused. "Why are you going abroad?"

"Star is studying overseas. I'm worried about her, so I'm going to check in."

Maynard knew that Stella Joyner and Briony were as close as sisters.

He nodded. "I understand. Don't worry about anything here. I'll handle Starlight Entertainment and the three kids."

"Nina and Mario will probably go to Stewart Wentworth's for the weekend, and Lori has Carol, so I'm not worried at all. You just focus on your own work. You don't need to worry about me."

Maynard was speechless.

The woman was keeping her defenses up, drawing a clear line between them with every word.

And yet, her expression was gentle, her demeanor soft.

That was precisely why her detached words were so irrefutable.

Maynard was hit with a fresh wave of defeat, realizing he might never be able to win Briony over.

That evening, Briony received a call from Cedric Clarke.

He had decided to go with her to Sydney to find Stella.

This was good news. Briony confirmed the departure time with him and hung up.

They were set to leave for Sydney on a Friday.

Briony had already told the twins that if they wanted to see their father over the weekend, they should call him themselves.

The two little ones loved going to their dad's house and happily waved goodbye to their mother.

After that, Briony had the driver take her to the airport.

When she arrived, Cedric was already waiting in the airport parking lot.

Stewart had driven him.

Stewart sat in the driver's seat, the window rolled down, his dark eyes fixed on Briony.

Their gazes met for a moment before Briony, her expression calm, looked away.

From the passenger seat, Cedric patted Stewart's shoulder. "Buddy, stop staring. If you want to win your wife back fair and square like me you need to sort out that deal you

with Xenia Cooper first As long

as you're in this position, Lcan't even put in a good word for you if I wanted to."

Stewart shot him a look, ignoring the teasing Instead, he offered a piece of advice. When you see her, tall things out properly. Don't make the same mistakes I did."

Cedric paused.

A flicker of helplessness crossed his eyes before he nodded. "I know. This time, I'll

take whatever she throws at me. For my son, I'll do anything!"

"For your son?" Stewart arched a brow. "If you're going after your wife just for the

sake of your child, then I suggest you don't go at all."

Cedric fell silent.

Of course, it wasn't just for their child.

It was because he loved Stella.

But if he had known that this trip to win her back would end in the complete and utter breakdown of their marriage, Cedric would have never chosen to go to Sydney that day...
