Chapter 725
Cedric glanced at her backpack, his brow furrowing slightly.
Was she planning to come right back after the divorce was finalized?
Hah. She really can't wait to be free, can she?
Stella didn't look at him. Her eyes were downcast, her face a mask of indifference.
To Cedric, it just looked like she didn't have a heart.
Briony's mood was also heavy. She looked at Cedric. "Dr. Clarke, let's call a cab. We need to get to the airport."
Cedric frowned but gave a curt nod.
The light drizzle continued to fall as the three of them took a taxi to the airport.
They had to wait to file a new international flight plan. The earliest departure was in an hour.
In the VIP lounge, Briony excused herself to make a phone call. She intentionally left them alone, hoping that Cedric might have calmed down by now and would take the initiative to talk to Stella.
Briony stayed outside for nearly an hour before she got the notification that their flight plan was approved. The plane would take off in twenty minutes.
She returned to the lounge.
Cedric was gone. Only Stella was sitting on the sofa, still and silent.
Briony sighed and sat down beside her.
Stella was staring down at her phone. The screen lock was a picture of Aster.
"Star."
Stella looked up at the sound of her name. She could see the worry in Briony's eyes.
"It's okay," Stella said, forcing a smile. "Our values and personalities just aren't compatible. It's better to end it sooner rather than later. As for Aster, he won't want for anything with the Clarke family's res And it's a good ing he's a boy. If he
were a girl..... I don't think I could have been strong enough to leave..."
Briony took her hand. "Are you really okay with letting go?"
Stella nodded. "I am..."
Hearing that, Briony didn't press the matter. She knew Stella was nowhere near as composed as she appeared. But if she and Cedric continued their endless cycle of arguments, it wouldn't be good for their child either.
The long flight back home might be their last chance.
...
The next day, a little after one in the afternoon, the private jet landed in Northborough.
The sun was blazing as the cabin door opened.
Stella and Briony walked out first, with Cedric following slowly behind.
His face was grim as he stared at Stella's back. Throughout the entire flight, she had kept her eyes closed pretending to sleep. When Briony woke her for meals, she ate a little but never spoke a word, ando certainly never glanced in his direction.
Cedric had been waiting the whole time for Stella to offer some kind of explanation.
But even now, as the plane landed, she hadn't said a single word of explanation, nor had she given him so much as a look.
Cedric shoved a hand in his pocket and stopped walking.
Up ahead, Stella didn't even turn back.
A derisive thought crossed his mind. Maybe this is what it's like when the love is
gone. Because you don't love them, you can be completely indifferent.
But what about Aster? Was he and Aster together still not enough to make her stay?
Cedric bit his lip, a stubborn, almost obsessive look in his eyes.
He refused to accept it.
A black Bentley drove slowly toward them.
Briony and Stella stopped.
The car pulled up in front of them, and the window rolled down, revealing Stewart's handsome, stern face.
Their eyes met. The man's gaze was deep and dark. "Bryn, get in."
Briony frowned slightly. "What are you doing here?"
"I asked Stewart to come pick us up." Cedric walked over and opened the passenger door. "I was there for him when he got his divorce. Now it's pay turn and as a brother it's Only right that he returns the favor."
Briony was speechless.
Was getting a divorce something to be proud of? Something that required returning favors?
She glanced at Stella, who stood beside her, her face completely blank.
Briony turned back to Stewart. "Aren't you going to try to talk some sense into Dr. Clarke?"
Stewart looked at her, his expression
looked at
softening. "Bryn, this is between
them. As friends, we can offer
advice, but you know as well as ido
that if few words could solve
everything, there wouldn't be so
many divorced couples in the world." Cóntent
"Bryn, it's no use talking," Stella said, tugging on Briony's arm. "Cedric and I haven't
been able to make it work for a long time. Let's just get in the car."
Inside the car, Cedric, who was just about to buckle his seatbelt, heard her words and nearly ripped the belt in two.
