Stewart was sitting on the sofa in the living room, his thickly bandaged hands resting on his knees. Carl stood respectfully to the side. At the sound of footsteps, they both turned to look toward the staircase.

"Ms. Kensington!" Carl exclaimed.

Stewart immediately stood up, his dark, narrow eyes fixed on her.

Briony walked over to them. "Marlene tells me you have work to attend to and can't look after Stewart for a few days?" she asked Carl.

Carl nodded vigorously. "Yes! Very busy! Incredibly busy! I won't be able to look after Mr. Wentworth at all! My sincerest apologies!"

The acting was so stiff and awkward that Briony was grateful she didn't laugh easily.

She kept a straight face and played along. "In that case, you should focus on your work. Marlene and the others can take care of Stewart here."

Carl's eyes lit up, and he glanced at Stewart, his relief written all over his face. Stewart could hardly bear to watch. He cleared his throat and waved a dismissive hand. “Since you're so busy, you should just go.”

"Oh, right, right! I am incredibly busy. I have to get back to the firm and work late!" Carl waved to Briony. "Well, Ms. Kensington, I'll leave Mr. Wentworth in your hands. I'm off!"

"Drive safely," Briony said.

"Will do!" Carl beat a hasty retreat.

Just then, Marlene came back downstairs. "The room is all ready," she announced, walking over to Stewart with a smile. "Mr. Wentworth, Ms. Kensington said you should have the east-facing guest room on the third floor since it gets the best light.” Stewart gave her a slight nod. "Thank you for the trouble, Marlene."

Marlene waved her hand cheerfully. "No trouble at all! We're all family here, no need to be so formal!"

Family...

Stewart's gaze shifted to Briony, his eyes deep with emotion. “Bryn, thank you.” Unable to handle his intense look, Briony pursed her lips. "You were injured while saving me. It's my responsibility to help out while you recover."

"I know," Stewart replied, a faint smile touching his lips, his voice low and gentle. Even this was enough to fill him with contentment.

Briony turned to Marlene. "He probably hasn't eaten dinner. Could you make him some porridge?"

"Of course!" Marlene headed for the kitchen.

Briony then asked him, "Did Carl bring you a change of clothes and things?"

"Yes." With a bandaged hand, Stewart pointed to a small duffel bag on the sofa.

Briony picked it up. "Let's go upstairs. Marlene will bring the porridge up when it's ready."

Stewart followed her. They went up

to the third floor, one behind the

other inside the room, Briony

opened the closet and began

hanging his clothes inside, one piece

at a time.

After she finished and closed the closet door, she turned to find Stewart standing in

the doorway, staring at her.

Her brow furrowed slightly. "What is it?"

Stewart's Adam's apple bobbed, his

gaze dark and profound. Watching her stand before the closet, a warmth spread through his chest "Bryn, Seeing you put away my clothes just now, it reminded me of how things used to be."

At his words, Briony froze.

They looked at each other as memories from years ago surfaced in both their minds. During the five years of their secret marriage, they had lived like any Couple They shared a bed, raised their child, and she would always pack his suitcase before his business trips. They really had shared some beautiful, happy times together.
