Chapter 167:

However, within the department, the announcements sparked plenty of whispers and speculation.

Employees murmured among themselves, speculating about the new general manager.

“How did Fernanda manage this? Just a short while ago, we were covering stories about her. Now she’s suddenly our manager?”

“She must have bought the company. Her family is wealthy, and her future in-laws, the Harpers, are even richer. For them, acquiring a company is a breeze.”

“What if she’s here to get back at us?” a girl with wide eyes whispered. “Consider it. Our department published so many stories about her—most of them extremely negative. Even I couldn’t stand reading them.”

“I agree, Miss Morgan seems pretty tough. She might really be here to settle the score,” someone chimed in.

“I didn’t write anything negative about her.” A girl with glasses leaned back in her chair, unaffected.

“I didn’t either. I don’t make up stories,” another girl with wide eyes interjected, then turned to a man deep in thought nearby. “Waldo, what’s going on in your head?”

Waldo Padilla snapped out of his trance, startled. “Huh? What’s happening?”

A few girls smirked, teasing him. “We were just saying, if Miss Morgan is here for revenge, you’re probably her first target. Didn’t you write most of those unflattering stories about her?”

Waldo’s face drained of color, his pen slipping from his hand and clattering to the floor.

Waldo was the same man who had been rude to Fernanda earlier that morning outside the elevator.

The girls exchanged sly glances, clearly enjoying his unease.

Waldo was basically the office’s most disliked person.

He was overly fawning to the bosses, constantly flattering them. On top of that, he seemed to have a strong disdain for women, particularly those who were attractive.

Waldo had once been in a relationship with a colleague, but he didn’t make it easy for her. He constantly criticized her, to the point where she began to doubt herself. Despite this, he showed no remorse. Instead, he shamelessly soaked up the girl’s affection, taking full advantage of her patience and generosity. Things took a darker turn when he cheated on her.

It was he who had betrayed her, yet he went around spreading lies about her. His rumors were so damaging that they forced her to resign from her job, leaving her with no choice but to walk away.

Whenever a female colleague was paired with him for work, he became unbearably full of himself. He’d always assumed that she was interested in him and was just using the chance to get closer.
