Chapter 178
Chapter 178:
“Should we invite Miss Morgan to join us for dinner tonight?” one of them asked hesitantly.
A heavy silence filled the room.
After a pause, someone spoke up. “It’d feel rude not to invite her, especially after everything she did for us. But we don’t really know her that well. She’s nice, but I’d still be on edge having dinner with her.”
“True. Miss Morgan’s young, but she carries herself with so much authority. Still, if we don’t at least ask, it might seem disrespectful on our part.”
Eventually, they agreed to invite Fernanda as a gesture of thanks.
When the invitation was finally delivered, Fernanda politely turned them down, explaining that she already had plans but wished them an enjoyable evening.
Fernanda’s response elicited a collective sigh of relief from the group.
Having the boss around would’ve made it difficult to let loose and enjoy the evening. A casual night with close coworkers sounded far more appealing.
Meanwhile, Fernanda was on the phone with Cristian. Amused by her response, he laughed and asked, “Why didn’t you go with them? It could’ve been a great opportunity for them to warm up to their new boss.”
“We’re still getting to know each other. My presence would’ve just made them uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to spoil their night. Another time, maybe,” Fernanda explained.
“So, what’s on your agenda for tonight?”
“Honestly? Nothing much,” she admitted. “I just needed a quick excuse.” There was a pause on Cristian’s end before he cautiously suggested, “In that case, why not spend the evening with me?”
Fernanda lapsed into silence, pondering their ambiguous relationship. She knew she probably should decline Cristian’s invitation. After all, they were not a couple, and spending so much time together could be seen as improper.
Yet, deep within her heart, the word “no” felt foreign and unwelcome. In truth, Fernanda cherished the moments spent with Cristian. His presence was a comforting balm; he was always kind, his attentiveness to her emotions unwavering.

“Fernanda?” Cristian’s voice broke through her reverie, tinged with concern. “Are you swamped with work? If it’s not a good time, we can always find another day.”
“No,” Fernanda answered more swiftly than she intended. “Where should we meet?”
“How about I pick you up at your office around five?” he suggested.
Fernanda nodded before she remembered he couldn’t see the gesture. “Sure, that sounds perfect.”
“Great, see you tonight then.”
“Okay, see you.”
As the line went dead, Fernanda placed the phone down, a subtle smile playing on her lips.
