Chapter 198
Chapter 198:
The sight of Neal, swathed in bandages, overwhelmed Bonita, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
“It’s heartbreaking to see him like this,” she murmured, her voice barely a whisper. “He looks so pitiful.”
Fernanda said nothing; her acquaintance with Neal was superficial at best, knowing him only as a fellow student with no insight into his personal life.
Neal continued to sleep deeply, not stirring until the late afternoon.
Fernanda and Bonita then entered his room.
Neal’s face lit up at the sight of Fernanda, but his expression chilled when he saw Bonita.
“Why did you come?” Neal’s voice was cold.
“I heard about your injury and was so worried… I had to come,” Bonita said softly, nervously twisting her fingers.
“Now that you’ve seen I’m alright, you can go,” Neal responded curtly, effectively dismissing her.
Bonita hadn’t expected such a cold attitude from Neal.
Although their relationship was largely one-sided and sustained by her efforts, Neal had never before treated her with such coldness. Distraught, Bonita turned to Fernanda with a look of desperation.
Fernanda offered her a comforting smile and suggested, “He’s probably hungry after sleeping for so long. Maybe you could check with the nurse if there’s any food left in the cafeteria?” Bonita nodded immediately and hurried off.
“Why are you so harsh on her?” Fernanda asked after Bonita left. “You almost brought her to tears.”
“I don’t want her around,” Neal said, his brow furrowed in frustration. “Believe it or not, I’m in this mess because of her! How could I possibly be gentle?”
“You got beat up because of Bonita?” Fernanda was taken aback. “How is she involved?”

Neal glanced at Fernanda, unsure whether to share the details with her. He wasn’t very skilled at interacting with women and didn’t have many female friends. In fact, Fernanda was the only woman he really spoke to at school.
Still, Neal felt uneasy keeping things to himself that perhaps should be shared.
He explained, “The people who jumped me last night made it clear I should stay away from Bonita Perry. Her full name is Bonita Perry, right?”
“Really? Did they actually say that?” Fernanda frowned, immediately realizing who was behind it: Beckett.
She recalled seeing Beckett, who was disturbingly obsessed with Bonita, just the other day when she had lunch with her.
“Did you get a good look at them?” Fernanda asked.
“No, it was pitch black. How could I see anything?” Neal replied, frustrated. “As I was walking home last night, someone suddenly jumped out and struck me on the back with a stick without saying a word. I’m lucky they hit my back. If it had been my head, I might not be here.”
